Is this fixed? I'm still seeing this issue with AGP 8.1.0-beta01 + Gradle 8.1

The fix has not been landed.

Due to this bug in CI we hit configuration cache invalidation 100% of the time. Can we make sure the fix lands soon? And especially before 8.1.0 stable.

I cc'ed you on the CL which should be landed this week.

Aurimas, is this 8.1 blocking for Androidx? If not, feel free to remove the "Blocking release" label.

This was still broken when running lint, but that is fixed here, which will be included in AGP 8.2.0-alpha10.

In our integration tests, there are cases(e.g. AnalyticsConfigurationCachingTest) we need to create this file, therefore you would get config cache miss. So it is intended that we still have an entry in ConfigurationCacheReportChecker.

However, in general, androidx shouldn't see this issue. I will chat more with Scott next week.

Considering there is a workaround (to allow-list this file) moving this to I beta blocking.

Bingran asked me if I had any insights about this issue and mentioned that Aurimas didn't manage to reproduce it locally and suspected that it only happened in an incremental build.

I took a look at my previous lint fix after seeing this.

I think the problem might be that LintClient.isGradle might not always be true when running the lint tasks, in which case this fix doesn't work.

LintClient.isGradle should be true when running lint tasks from Gradle because we invoke lint with --client-id gradle, but when I run grep -r "client=\"" on the AndroidX codebase, I see a mix of client="gradle" and client="cli", which suggests to me that the client id is being reset in some cases.

I ran this command:

  rm ../../out -rf && OUT_DIR=../../out DIST_DIR=../../out/dist ./gradlew lintAnalyzeDebug -Pandroidx.verifyUpToDate 

and it created ../../out/.gradle/.android/analytics.settings

but when I ran this command

  rm ../../out -rf && OUT_DIR=../../out DIST_DIR=../../out/dist ./gradlew lintAnalyzeDebug -Pandroidx.verifyUpToDate --max-workers 1

it didn't create ../../out/.gradle/.android/analytics.settings

so it could be that reproducing the error requires running certain tasks at the same time

Combining Comment #25 and (sometimes lint reports being the wrong client) and Comment #26 (reproducing the issue seems to require parallelism), perhaps for the lint client to be wrong requires multiple tasks running at once.

I think lint runs inside the Gradle Daemon JVM process - is that right?

I notice LintClient.kt mentions “@JvmStatic lateinit var clientName: String”. I think that means multiple lint clients might be able to overwrite each others’ values?

Maybe I can figure out which tasks set the lint client to something else

I investigated a little bit more into the plausibility of our guess (parallel lint invocations causing incorrect client) and it seems to be holding up:

1: I notice that aosp/2724176 changes some clients from "cli" to "gradle" for example https://android-review.git.corp.google.com/c/platform/frameworks/support/+/2724176/5/camera/integration-tests/coretestapp/lint-baseline.xml and also changes some clients from "gradle" to "cli" for example https://android-review.git.corp.google.com/c/platform/frameworks/support/+/2724176/5/compose/ui/ui/lint-baseline.xml

2: I regenerated all of the lint baselines via echo | tee find -name lint-baseline.xml && ./gradlew updateLintBaseline --max-workers=1 and found that it put 'client="gradle"' into the resulting files

I'll check again later after updating to the corresponding AGP

Unfortunately, yes, this change makes AGP's check for the existence of the file compatible with configuration caching, but AnalyticsSettings is still interacting with the file in a way that is not compatible with configuration caching.

This has been fixed here. Fix will be in AGP 8.3.0-alpha04.

In Gradle 8.3 we are ignoring this file with the following in gradle.properties:

However, the AnalyticsService still breaks configuration on demand for some people:

We've found that setting "hasOptedIn":false," in ~.gradle/.android/analytics.settings fixes the issue.

Super! To sum it up: with any emu image with at least api26 the mic will obey the hw.audioInput setting in the .ini file otherwise (for older emu images) the mic will always be disabled. Correct?

Unfortunately we create the goldfish_audio device unconditionally, it is not even a sound card from the qemu point of view, it just happens to call the audio API. I disabled the microphone in goldfish_audio here, so old API levels on ARM will not have a microphone until we figure out a better approach.

All changes are merged and available in the 8513367 emulator build. I checked our system images, on x86 the microphone issue should be fixed on API23 and later, on arm ones - API29 and later. We will see if we can fix our older arm system images (API28 and older).

To disable the microphone you want to add hw.audioInput=no to config.ini in the AVD folder.

Hello, emulator 31.3.8 build 8598121 just landed in the canary channel. Can you please check if it includes this fix? Writing hw.audioInput=no in config.ini and using an API32 image still produces the BT audio switch when launching the emu.

Got log says 31.3.8 should include my change to fix this issue. Unfortunately I am out of the office and cannot check this.

I confirm, 8513367 does not affect BT audio quality, while 8598121 does affect.

Here is what happened: the last time we cut a new release was April, 4. Since then we have been doing cherry-picks which I have not requested before. With the cherry-picks requested this fix is available in 31.3.9 which should be published by the end of this week or the next week.

You need bluetooth headphones for it.

1. Connect the headphones to the host.
2. Start some audio on the host (e.g. a youtube video with good audio quality).
3. Coldboot an emulator (you can use any system image, e.g. S), notice host's audio quality drops when the emulator starts.
4. Add hw.audioInput=no to the AVD's config.ini.
5. Coldboot the emulator again, check if host's audio quality is unaffected.

Hi Jamie, it should be fixed, please add hw.audioInput=no to AVD's config.ini file for API32 and below. It is not required for API33 and above. There are some other quirks there (in API33) as I am learning about QEMU audio API behavior (the QEMU and kernel disagree on how audio is consumed).

shalva258, could you please elaborate? I just created API30 and API33 on Mac and I can hear that API30 affects audio in my bt headphones when the emulator starts and API33 does not. Maybe update the emulator? I tried on 32.1.3.

I have API 33 and Android Emulator version is 31.3.14. How did you install 32.1.3? In Android Studio it does not say there is update available. On their website latest version is 31.3.13 and I dont know how AS downloaded 31.3.14 version :D

It's freaking 2024, the original issue from 2016 that was marked as fixed was definitely not fixed, this one wasn't either. Windows 10, using emulator 34.2.14-11834374 and this beyond intrusive problem is still there. Good luck trying to share your emulator screen on a meeting and keep your audio and mic working without problems, you won't because this insanely dumb bug is still present to this day and it takes over your audio input forcing hour headset into hands-free mode when you don't want to.
