I've started experimenting with the google cloud, and noticed that the Container-Optimized OS does not support the XFS file system. I've started using the container-vm image because of that, but that's going to be deprecated. It would be really nice to see cos to support XFS.

+1 needed for GlusterFS & Heketi on GKE to provide dynamic provisioned persistent gluster storage (heketi uses XFS, and as it's mainly developed by Red Hat engineers & as it works fine on OpenShift, I can't see any reason for heketi to alter their code).

with the release of Kubernetes 1.7 we can use the new StorageOS plugin (

There are no immediate plans to support XFS on COS. However, for GKE, we have an Ubuntu image available as an alpha feature, soon to be beta in the coming weeks. The Ubuntu image should have the XFS packages available. So please reach out to your support representative if you would like to be part of the alpha program.

According to the docs on this page, it shows that COS does support xfs. Is that new or is that just inaccurate documentation?

+1 for XFS support on COS. We need it for MongoDB.
Currently we run on ubuntu on GKE - but it doesnt support Automatic Node Repair and nodes do stall sometimes.

Modern XFS with it's COW features makes VFS docker storagedriver to be blazing fast and POSIX compliant , which is not the case for overlayfs sadly. +1 for XFS

This is one of those things you take for granted. You can even format xfs from Container-Optimized OS but then you cannot mount the disk...
