I also can't refactor layourt files on Windows 10, AS beta 3

In the dialog box that appears, it says:
"Refactoring can not be performed.
File [path_to_project] build\generated\source\r\debug\[...]\R.java is read-only. "

Alex - this was in Change-Id: Ia76fe77d680d83688fd10196bae442fc2110c3a8, reverting this change fixes the issue. It seems we'll need to rethink this change.

Updated to Beta 4. In new and old projects the bug is still presented.

Beta 4 doesn't include the fix. It will be in beta 5.

Are you really sure that you were using beta 5? And that the bug you're seeing is exactly the same as this (refactoring aborts with a read only message) ?
Most users are reporting that it's fixed for them so I'm wondering what's unique about your scenario.

Comment #23: exactly. Android Studio beta 5 with android gradle beta-5. Probably not all users tried to rename project package name. I now tried again, after rechecking version of studio - the same. But, now error says that can't refactor only 2 AndroidManifest.xml's for 2 modules, inside build directories ([app|module]/build/intermediates/manifest/androidTest/debug/AndroidManifest.xml)

I still face this bug constantly in Android Studio 3.0.1 - have to do a clean rebuild each time. Instant Run doesn't work either.

Please ignore my comment above, wrong bug.

This does happen in 3.0.1 but I doubt it has anything to do with the original issue.  I face it periodically with a multidexed apk.
