The opt-in period for this product has now started, and you can opt-in by ensuring you use the new experimental version (3.32). You can use the current release version (3.31) should not want to use the new basemap style for now.

Hello,
Both of these issues sound like your app might not be compatible wit the new renderer. Please checkhttps://issuetracker.google.com/73098346 for more information, and please open a new bug so that we can investigate in depth. We will need a code sample of how to reproduce your issues, though.

The switch from opt-in to opt-out of the new basemap look for the Google Maps Javascript API is now effective on the current "experimental" and "release" versions of the API. You can use the current "frozen" version (v3.31) while it's available should you not want to use the new basemap style for now. Please note that version will however be retired in about 3 months.
More information on the different version tracks can be found onhttps://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/versions .

The old basemap style is no longer available as of 14th August when v3.31 was deleted.
Updated release notes are available here:https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/releases

Description
This transition is bound to the Google Maps JavaScript versions, and by locking your application to certain version you can opt-in early (for sites on release) or opt-out (for sites using the experimental version) before the new style has rolled out to all available versions.
For the Google Maps JavaScript API, the milestones are as follows:
In February 2018, starting with version 3.32 of Google Maps JavaScript API, you get the fresh new look.
Opt-out by locking your application to version 3.31, until your application is ready for the fresh new look.
Version 3.31 becomes frozen in May 2018 (Only major security updates).
Version 3.31 retires in August 2018 (Opt-out no longer possible).
To opt-in and opt-out simply pick the new version (3.exp or 3.32) once version 3.32 is available. To opt-out pick version 3.31 (the last version with the old look). To receive updates on new Maps API versions, please subscribe to the v3-notify group[3] or the v3 user group[4].
We will keep this issue updated as we approach milestones.
