A common use case is to spin up a new VM with a docker image, run the container, and spin the VM down as soon as the container exits.

As far as I can tell, there's no (current) way to make this happen. I'd love to request a new gcloud command line switch to enable this.

I had the same problem!
I could solve it by putting the .aidl file in an aidl directory.
Look at the attached screenshot to see the project structure.
