While we cannot support the case where findNavController() is called in onCreate() of an Activity for a NavHostFragment inflated with FragmentContainerView (see https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/142847973), if using a Lifecycle dispatcher and lifecycles were nested appropriately, it would be possible to use findNavController() in when onCreate is dispatched.
Driving the Lifecycle methods with a LifecycleObserver is being addressed in https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/127528777. We should ensure this works once that functionality is implemented.
