Not able to reproduce this issue on the latest stable version of Android Studio, after trying different modifications like adding, removing and commenting code. As a note, when adding spaces or new lines the Gradle file isn't detected as changed and as a consequence the banner notification isn't displayed.

As an additional alternative, it should be possible to specify a label in the options for GmailApp.sendEmail().
