When I use the "Convert to WEBP" feature within Android Studio to convert a PNG image that is 1-bit (with transparency), it is changed to a 32-bit WEBP with no transparency. Transparent areas of the PNG are changed to opaque black in the WEBP.

For example, download the "add" icon from material icons. All resolutions other than hdpi are 1-bit (with transparency) PNGs. These files render as expected in the built APK, but render with black background within Android Studio. After running Convert to WEBP, these files render with black background in the built APK as well as within Android Studio.
