One reason that makes this option better than recent tasks:

And showing the recent tasks, it's not a real screenshot of what's shown. It's a screenshot of the tasks you choose.
If you want to take a screenshot that includes the notifications, for example, you can't do it using this method.

@#13: I thought I was missing something too. Search your Settings for "navigation". Are you using 2 button? It looks like it will only appear if you have 3 button or gesture navigation set. Sounds like a separate bug. If that's been reported in another thread I'll star it. You can also take a screenshot with Volume Down + Power.

It's ridiculous to have 3 navigation modes and decide to remove the screenshot button from one of them. Have just updated and am very irritated with this new "feature" both three button and gesture are so clunky I can't stand to switch to either mode.

I agree with everybody else on here. Intended behavior should not be to make things harder to do. If you want to add screenshots to the recent menu, go for it, but why remove it from the power menu?!? WTF is 100% right!

As an avid user of the 2-button navigation method, I find it unusual that the option for screenshots does not appear on my screen. Also, why is this not in the power menu? I have never, not intend to, use devices that require the new power options, yet lost a vastly improved function over previous generations that I use every day. Is there a reason for this omission that caters to mass input? At least allow us to customize the power menu with features we want to use.

I don't see why the screenshot function would work in every navigation option except the 2 key navigation. I would also appreciate it if we can have the option to add the screenshot button to the power menu in the power menu settings. Could also be nice to allow us to add some of the controls from the quick settings in the notification bar to the power menu just to add more customizability.

Google has changed the purpose of the power menu and having screenshot there is no longer appropriate. Fine. However not having it in the 2 button navigation task view is either an amazing oversight or a statement of intent. Hope Google will realise the inconsistency and add it back to 2 button nav.

Why would you take this away? On the pixel 3xl swiping up also doesn't show an option to take a screenshot for me. I'm unable to take a screenshot with one hand now because of the size of the phone and location of the buttons. This is a downgrade in functionality. Please fix this

If I was a Karen, I'd be calling for whoever "designed" this to get fired, I am livid. Instead, I'm adding my voice to the frustrated users and telling you: you broke something essential here. Has Covid-19 made you unable to do UX testing and your own mind simply didn't see the obvious error of removing this key feature? And don't go making it a two button press thing, it has to be one long press of one button, done.

Screenshotting with the power button is something I have done since owning my Pixel 3 - around 2 years. The other options are just not viable!
- Power button and volume down? Impossible with 1 hand and also cannot be done if music is playing as it just lowers the playback volume, even with the power button held too.
- Switch away from 2 button navigation method? Have to get used to a complete new way of using the phone which quite frankly is not acceptable.
- Get Google Assistant to take a screenshot? How can you do that privately/in a quiet setting!
Please just bring back the screenshot in the power menu.

Bring back the intuitive screenshot shortcut after holding down the power button. Since the update a couple of days ago, I've tried to take a screenshot that way 3 or 4 times and been unable to, that's how much I used it. Requiring people use two hands to press volume and power button is also a step backwards in terms of accessibility.

Please make it an option at least again for those that need the screenshot button to be only the power button, really helps with anyone who has arthritis too, one of the main reasons I went with the pixel in the first place. I have really bad arthritis in my left hand so being ables to only have to use one button makes it not hurt as much when trying to screenshot.

In the power menu, I'm now seeing Emergency, Power (which opens up options for power off and restart) and screenshot as the 3 options across the top.
The patch notes describe the change specifically as "Improvements for screenshot access on devices with 2-button navigation" and only lists Pixel 3/XL and 3a/XL in the devices next to it.

So it may be they've only actioned the change for those phones specifically and/or when 2-button navigation is enabled (both of which are true for me). If that's true, this would be almost as stupid as the decision to remove it in the first place, and will just cause more fragmentation.

Yeah, this seems like a harmless request. What downside is there in having it? Yes, you're all very proud of the new power menu, but why not allow four buttons at the top, or let us disable the "lockdown" selection and replace it with screenshot. It just seems silly to refuse... "Do no harm!"
On the other hand, for anyone who wants it back, you can use Macrodroid to create a macro with an empty trigger with these actions: press back button, wait 500ms, takes a screenshot. Next, go into your power menu, choose the MacroDroid category from the selection dropdown. Then choose the "3 dot" menu, add controls, and add your screenshot macro. Then you'll effectively have the power menu screenshot button.

While I personally use 2-button navigation and was pleased to see the option reintroduced on the power menu (which itself was a back-track after significant criticism), there is literally no reason this couldn't or shouldn't be rolled out to all three navigation modes other than arrogance or laziness. Cleary the code, UI and functionality all exist and have been tested already (as it's already present in 2-button mode). Not including the same option in other modes just creates more fragmentation (something Android excels in) and will long term end up creating more work and testing for the dev team whenever new changes are made. It's just short-sighted.
