Please give me Vendor Extension Channels behavior on the smartphone.

We are developing a Android Auto function that uses communication between a vehicle head unit and a smartphone application.
We faced the problem that the connection is terminated by the smartphone screen turns off or by the application goes to the background.
If we used Vendor Extension Channels, is it possible to make continuous communication even when the smartphone goes sleep mode?
