Replication steps:

1. Trigger a refresh using a SwipeRefreshLayout control within a Fragment inside a ViewPager.
2. While the refresh animation (spinner) is active, leave the current Fragment by swiping to a new Fragment in the ViewPager. (I was using tabs)
3. Return to the original fragment.

You will notice the refresh spinner animation is no longer displayed. You can try to re-establish the "is refreshing" state on the SwipeRefreshLayout in the Fragment's onResume() method (it was "paused"). However, it will have no impact on the missing refresh animation because internally the SwipeRefreshLayout still holds the isRefreshing state from before.
