We have passed this to the development team and will update this issue with more information as it becomes available.

I actually requested to have more for both collapsed and expanded, or customize it.
Even the "styles" settings don't show the current preview. See attached
We could have there (or somewhere else) a setting for the style of the quick-settings tiles, and how many to have in each state (collapsed/expanded).
The current ones (though have nicer description and no issues with texts) made the icons so small, almost as small as the status bar icons. It makes it longer to find what I want to press on because of this.
And of course because the items are larger, there are less being shown than it could be.
In expanded more, there are 8 even though there is space for more as it's in full screen.

Also, when closing the expanded view you have to go back, you can't just swipe up to close expanded view anymore.

We've passed along your input to our internal teams, who may evaluate it for a future release. We're closing this issue for now, and thanks for sending us your feedback!

Please reopen this and fix this. I hate android 12 because of this.

Ooof, yeah this issue is kind of a biggie. Having those verbose labels is going to be nice for my mom's phone but a lot of us are genx or younger and already know what the icons mean. Would love to return to having more of these toggles available in the first-swipe real estate.
he...@gmail.com <he...@gmail.com> #8
Same! I would love if this got reverted again or at least left as a choice for users 🤦🏼♂️!

Por favor ofereçam a possibilidade de reverter para o modo antigo.
ja...@gmail.com <ja...@gmail.com> #10
Same here. I used the Quick Settings numerous times a day and the large chunky icons are horrible. Please, please, please at least provide a setting to remove the text from the icons.
bb...@gmail.com <bb...@gmail.com> #11
Same. Two swipes and a button press seems so much more inefficient than one swipe and press. Also bring back the always visible vibrate / silent icon. I really don't understand the logic in hiding that unless you go to the quick settings...way too easy to forget you set your phone to silent without it always being displayed.
he...@gmail.com <he...@gmail.com> #12
@11 The "silent" icon actually is displayed permanently. Only the "vibrate" icon is not. Check it again ;)
bb...@gmail.com <bb...@gmail.com> #13
That's still not ideal. Why hide anything?
ja...@gmail.com <ja...@gmail.com> #14
This is awful. Please make this configurable. The buttons are huge and that's unnecessary for people like me who understand the icons.
ii...@gmail.com <ii...@gmail.com> #15
Please make this configurable. Having text next to the icons slows me down considerably.
se...@gmail.com <se...@gmail.com> #16
Agreed! This is a backward step in usability. Please at least make a settings option to show icons only.
de...@gmail.com <de...@gmail.com> #17
I also agree. There could easily be 8 smaller buttons displayed if they were 1/2 the size. And adding an option to minimize them would be a good addition as well.
bb...@gmail.com <bb...@gmail.com> #18
New quick settings are unusable. Toggle option to revert please.
lg...@gmail.com <lg...@gmail.com> #19
+1
in...@gmail.com <in...@gmail.com> #20
This is a regression in probably one of the most used features. Please add the option to keep smaller icons (without text).

This should be reopened I do not think it's right to call it an intended function and call it a day. We all know your design team intended for it to be this way but open your eyes! It is plastered accross every corner of the internet that has to do with this update. Your design is inherantly bad and breaks UI standards in and of itself making tasks that use to take a swipe and a single tap into 3 times the gestures or worse if you want something orher then wifi in your first 4 settings.
It was intended and you were WRONG! Read the writting on the wall and at least do this. At minimum you can give use the option to hide text and show 6 circles like its been for years. Icons exist for a reason they are supposed to be recognizable without text so why add text for no good reason?

tr...@gmail.com <tr...@gmail.com> #22
Intended feature? Who cares if it was done on purpose, it was clearly an awful decision. I reverted to Android 11 solely because of this and the change to gpay. And if this awful feature isn't fixed by the time I need a new phone I'll be sure to just buy a refurbished version of a phone that runs Android 11. And even Android 11 has it wrong as it used to be when you expanded the pull down menu you got MORE quick settings, not the same amount. Just because you intended to do something doesn't mean you should put your foot down and stick to it when it's clearly the most hated design decision of Android 12
Al...@web.de <Al...@web.de> #23
I agree, it's mind boggling how there is no toggle option for this!
This is clearly bad UX!
If you already know the icons you can find everything really fast, now the icons are actually smaller and you have to read the text!
=> Overview is way worse!
At first I thought I had enabled some kind of accessibility feature by accident!
Please reopen this issue!

Absolutely cannot tolerate the changes to quick settings. Toggling wifi on and off has gone from:
Swipe down, tap wifi icon, swipe up
To:
Swipe down, tap internet, tap wifi, tap done, swipe up.
From 3 gestures to 5. This is objectively worse UI.
And this is only if I choose internet as one of my 4 primary quick settings which is not a given now that I can only choose 4 instead of 6.
Do not disturb, flashlight, auto rotate, and hotspot are the most commonly used quick setting toggles for me followed by WiFi and Bluetooth. Ugh I abhor that I even have to post this comment in 2022. Give me more options not fewer!

Won't fix (bad design intended)
Description
What type of Android issue is this? User Interface, Display, or Rendering issue
When did this happen?
May 20, 2021 6:51 AM GMT+01:00
What steps would let us observe this issue?
1. Open notifications shade
What did you expect to happen?
See 6 minimized quick settings tiles like in Android 11
What actually happened?
Only 4 of them are displayed and the space is wasted by showing labels for them.
How often has this happened?
Always
What was the effect of this issue on your device usage, such as lost time or work?
Major - "quick" settings are not so quick anymore as I have to expand quick settings panel to get to the other 2 toggles that I use frequently in exchange for nothing (I already know what they are for, so their labels have no use for me and only waste space).
Labels may be useful for new users, but please let experienced users disable them to have more tiles like before. Don't be like Apple that forces dumbed down solutions to power users because they don't like giving them a choice.
