We have now (as of RC01 of ui-tooling) split the ui-tooling in two artifacts.
ui-tooling-preview: Contains the API definitionsui-tooling: Contains the implementation and can be declared asdebugImplementation
This should address the problem with the activity retention.

Jetpack Compose release version: 1.0-beta08 Android Studio Build:
Steps to Reproduce:
result - apk size is 60kb unnecessarily bigger
We're excluding ui-tooling from our release builds as a result, but perhaps there can be some proguard exclusions that can remove most of this impact? Should samples use debugImplementation as a best practice, putting preview functions only in debug files?
