I have informed our engineering team of this feature request. There is currently no ETA for its implementation.
A current workaround would be to check the returned "boundingPoly" [1] "vertices" for the returned "textAnnotations". If the calculated rectangle's heights > widths, than your image is sideways.

Description
As a workaround, I have renamed my .xml docs to .html and submitted them for batch translation. They have all worked so far, except with docs that have multiple <title> tags, the translation API is removing the second <title>...</title> tag (and content between) for some reason. Other subsequent title tags remain as expected.
