We've passed along your input to our internal teams, who are evaluating it for a future release. We're closing this issue for now, and thanks for sending us your feedback.
sk...@gmail.com <sk...@gmail.com> #5
This was a really poor UX choice here by removing this shortcut. The workflow now requires the user to add a quick tile to the priority row and displace other tiles, which could also be just as important.
ca...@gmail.com <ca...@gmail.com> #6
Please add this shortcut back. I used it all the time and it's really annoying that it's been removed.
ke...@kbrd.pw <ke...@kbrd.pw> #7
Why would you silently remove a handy shortcut and call it "intended Behavior" when users want it back?
I cannot think of anything that is better because the shortcut was removed, so why not simply add it back?

Meanwhile, tapping on the cell network provider name just slightly to the right of the time, opens Network Settings in the same way Alarms previously opened by tapping on the time.
he...@gmail.com <he...@gmail.com> #11
#10 oh man... You're right. That's so stupid. Why did they take away the other shortcut then????
rn...@gmail.com <rn...@gmail.com> #12
I kinda cared about this but the alarm tile is working properly now. Just use that 🤷♂️
ga...@gmail.com <ga...@gmail.com> #13
I want it back too, use it all the time on Android 11.
gn...@gmail.com <gn...@gmail.com> #14
Bring it baaaaaaack !! Or please make the UX designer who made that decision call me, I can't understand why or how this shortcut disappeared....
ma...@gmail.com <ma...@gmail.com> #15
I also would like this back!
ch...@gmail.com <ch...@gmail.com> #16
Just clarifying that somewhere on a roadmap a task appeared: "remove the really useful, nearly invisible, very simple shortcut where tapping the clock from the notification tray opens the clock application" and then a Product Manager was like, yeah, let's put that on the top of the pile and cut out that cruft. Can't have useful code gumming up the works!" And someone said "we have data that shows no one uses this so we might as well just remove it to hit our quota of 1 line in 2 lines out" and that was that?
Multiple professionals were involved in taking time and energy to remove useful code that couldn't have introduced any significant unit testing surface area, and these same adults felt that this was a worthwhile use of everyone's time?

kw...@gmail.com <kw...@gmail.com> #24
Couldn't care less if it's intended behavior, it's bad design and these words are from people reporting their feelings on this intended behavior. I'm intended to report this behavior as a bug because it is so frivolously needless of a change and does not yield any positive user experience with it's removal.
Thanks! 🛐

to...@gmail.com <to...@gmail.com> #25
Agreed, I was really surprised when I tried to open my clock and it didn't work. I use alarms and timers a ton and this easily triples the amount of time it takes to launch it.
ed...@gmail.com <ed...@gmail.com> #26
Lol at intended behavior. Whoever made this change sucks as a human being.
jo...@gmail.com <jo...@gmail.com> #27
+1 for bringing it back - it seems surprising to remove the functionality without providing a better alternative or reusing the action for some other feature.
I don't want to have to include the Clock as an icon on my home screen.

ad...@gmail.com <ad...@gmail.com> #42

These are poor design choices and feels like we're moving backwards! The Google pay button is also super unnecessary compared to holding down the power button

fo...@gmail.com <fo...@gmail.com> #77
Why won't this be brought back... It was a useful feature.... In the new update clicking the time SHOULD open the clock - and the date the calendar. There is no reason for this not to be kept for continuity??
pa...@gmail.com <pa...@gmail.com> #78

pa...@gmail.com <pa...@gmail.com> #81

ja...@jackvalentine.org.uk <ja...@jackvalentine.org.uk> #82
This may be "by design", but that doesn't stop the design from being terrible. There is no logical reason to remove this function, which worked well and was very convenient. It wasn't in the way of anything else. The only result of removing it is to upset the people who used it and liked it.
So the real question here is: Why do you hate us so?

sw...@gmail.com <sw...@gmail.com> #84
Please reconsider and add this back to android. It is silly not to be able to click on the time and get time related options. Seeing the alarm from the home screen is seriously useful
no...@gmail.com <no...@gmail.com> #85
perhaps replying to this thread every day and starting duplicate threads should also be intended behavior. Sure, you'd rather we didn't do that, but oh well, now you know how your user base feels. :)

he...@gmail.com <he...@gmail.com> #87

[Deleted User] <[Deleted User]> #88
DISAGREE strongly with previous comment. NOT GOOD ENOUGH
ca...@madeby.cam <ca...@madeby.cam> #89
I don't even know where to find "At A Glance" date. If it's not as simple as tapping the time in the status bar then it's not good enough.
ca...@gmail.com <ca...@gmail.com> #90
Agreed. Please just bring back the original shortcut
zm...@gmail.com <zm...@gmail.com> #91
#87 I do not mean to be rude, but how is being able to open the calendar from a widget a substitute for being able to open alarms by tapping the time in the notification panel from anywhere?
he...@gmail.com <he...@gmail.com> #92
The At A Glance widget is the default widget that's natively integrated into the Pixel Launcher. It's activated by default as well.
You can tap on the date on the home screen from the At A Glance widget (located at the top of the home screen) to quickly get into the calendar. It's really not that hard and very quick to get there.
I still think the old method was smarter and quicker. But the current method is, in fact, good enough.

Dear "he...@gmail.com", I think you may have the wrong thread.
Nobody here is talking about accessing the calendar.
The shortcut we want back allows us to access the clock and alarms.
The clock and calendar are vastly different things.

done as intended. I totally forgot about it until now, and now I'm

Totally agree as a UX Designer that this was not a good move for your user experience. You had something that was used and loved and then you removed it. You have the code and the knowledge to put it back in place.
al...@gmail.com <al...@gmail.com> #99
Very disappointed that you removed the most important function on my phone. It redundant to add a time widget and have the time displayed on the top bar.

co...@gmail.com <co...@gmail.com> #103
Why, after almost a year of continual and unique posts requesting reinstating the "button", is this still in Won't Fix status? It's not a Bug - it's a downright liberty that so so reflects so much of Google's lacklustre responsiveness to customers' requests and very reasonable observations.
jo...@gmail.com <jo...@gmail.com> #104
PLEASE bring this back, I still haven't gotten used to the 'workaround' a YEAR LATER even with using it every day. The original design was so so so convenient
ge...@gmail.com <ge...@gmail.com> #105

ge...@gmail.com <ge...@gmail.com> #106
I'm still waiting for this issue to be resolved. I should be able to enter the clock app by tapping the clock displayed at the top of the screen in the notification bar.
ge...@gmail.com <ge...@gmail.com> #107

Still a missing feature considered a bug or a failure of UX consideration. Waiting on Android devs to fix something they broke is unlikely to ever bear fruit. Sticking with v11 since it doesn't have this and other UX features broken.
