I am using Norton 360 VPN, I was also suffering from this issue (the Key icon indicates I am connected to VPN but I cannot connect to websites etc.). My solution was to disable "Block connections without VPN" and it started working again. Unfortunately re-enabling it will cause the issue to come back.

We were able to reproduce the issue on the public Android Developer Preview build. However, the issue is not reproducible on our internal development build (which is ahead of the public release). Please test it on the next public release and let us know if you are still having issues.

Ad blockers that use local VPN like AdGuard or Blokada are also affected. You can still connect to the Internet through them, that hasn't been affected, but now they completely fail to block any ads or other menaces like they're designed to.

Most concerning is that using outline VPN, I had no indication that my vpn wasn't behaving as usual. Only after reading articles about it did I search, "what's my IP" and it returned the IP address from the local network, not my outline server as it normally does.

Google, I keep seeing where you've already corrected this problem, so I'm wondering how long we'll have to wait before you push out the patch. I get that beta 4 is still a beta (even if you did advertise it as being platform stable), but this problem isn't just a minor annoyance. It was one thing when my screen would periodically freeze, I figured out how to unfreeze it and keep going. But a lot of people rely on VPNs. There are people whose work requires them for protecting sensitive data. There are those of us who are paying subscriptions for ad block services, and getting no service right now as a result.

It's been more than a week, and this bug is now the most serious breakage in Android S that is still live (Dupe count + stars) (yes, other issues are slight inconveniences). How can there still be no fixed version for the beta build?

I'm seriously reconsidering ever participating in a beta release moving forward if Google makes no effort to patch known bugs for which there already is a known fix (see comment #6).

However, the issue is not reproducible on our internal development build (which is ahead of the public release). Please test it on the next public release and let us know if you are still having issues.

There is no next public release: hurry up and push the next version. What could happen at worst? Break networking completely?

I think Google has understood, that VPN isn't working and I'm sure they are working on it and will fix it until the final release of Android 12.

I used an android 11 device to activate vpn. Used the app Every Proxy on that device to create Http proxy, then activated hotspot. Once I connected the android 12 device to this hotspot and updated my apps, vpn is working again.

Hope that helps others who can't put vpn in the router.

This being a beta is all nice and good, but the purpose of the OS beta is to be able to test your app. If your app is a VPN, and the OS prevents it from functioning, it's useless. Then even if it gets fixed in the final release, your customer is running the code that you could not test.

Disagree. An an IT employee it's my job to test new operating systems with
our core mobile offerings to staff around the globe that are in situations
forcing them to work from home. Guess what? VPN is a requirement in order
to have that secure tunnel into the corporate network. So not just app devs

1st is an internal DNS (reachable in the VPN network

Hello ive just upgraded from a pixel 3a to a pixel 6 and i am having issues with vpn as well im in the uk and my phone network is 3. The software i upto date on pixel 6

Im using open vpn for android with nord vpn, i have 4 profiles saved in open vpn. 2 are servers are tcp and 2 servers udp type connections. The tcp connections works as expected but when using udp the vpn connects but the phone cannot access the internet despite the vpn saying connected successfully

Also hotspot performance is much slower than my pixel 3a, slow to respond would describe it. Also ive noticed that if i hotspot to my pixel 3a from the pixel 6 the pixel 3a experiences the same issue as above the vpn connects but no internet available to use but in this circumstance both udp and tcp connections are affected. When connecting to my ereader sometimes isnt able to access the internet at all and it doesnt use a vpn

Everything was working fine with pixel 3a there are no differences in setup between the 3a and 6 apart from the pixel 6 is running android 13

Also ive noticed when i start a call the vpn loses connection but shortly reconnects after

Might be unrelated but sometimes when i call a contact it just cuts off straight away without actually ringing
