Hello team,

I would like to share with you a feature request to support NFC/HCE capabilities on Instant Apps. Currently the set of allowed permissions are quite limited, and among other things NFC is not part of them.

There are plenty of use cases where, by leveraging the native experience of an app, NFC-enabled Instant Apps could be very useful:

Access Control: Use of HCE for temporary digital keys.
Asset tracking: Asset return, asset security, speed of scanning.
Advertisement: Coupons, tags, etc. shown on custom apps.
ID management: Digital signatures, authentication, etc.
Information gathering: Reading information via smartcards or NDEF (NFC Data Exchange Format) to be applied on multiple applications.
Reporting: Tracking customers or homecare patients, activity recording, etc.

All of those use cases and more could fit within a lightweight app executed on the fly without installing the full app version. Many of those use cases are carried out by users who don't want to install multiple different apps for the same purpose on their mobile devices. This is why an Instant App would greatly improve the flow, resulting in an incredible user experience.

Would you consider including NFC capabilities for Instant Apps?

We are launching this on iOS and Android. iOS works nicely but Android users cannot get real-time location due to this issue and we'd love to give them a better experience with this fix.

Hi ra...@ - is there any update on whether this feature will be introduced in the future or if it still blocked? Like the others, we also would like to use this functionality and have a working iOS App Clips implementation with Bluetooth but are blocked on Android because of this issue.

Hi is there any update on this issue ? We are providing indoor navigation visually impaired and blind, and this is very important for them to use the solution without downloading the app. It will enhance the experience. Thanks.

Here another vote for this feature. We're developing access solutions using BLE locks. We can only give the desired experience to iPhone users (through app clips). We are blocked by this Android limitation.

Come on, googlers! Let's do this! NFC can make the world better, help fight money laundering and make qualified signatures much cheaper for everybody: https://fidentity.ch ! We use NFC Chip access to read out Chips on Identity documents (Passports). WebNFC is not an option due to low level access that's needed. The app is typically one time use. The app-clip solution on iOS works wonderfully with a great user Journey. On android we work around the issue with deep linking so we don't lose the user during in the app store / they can follow a linear process. This works / drop out rates are OK but it is inferior to the almost transition-less app-clip solution.

Need this functionality for a client who provides trolleys to retail. Lock/unlock your trolley via App, which works fine. App Clips / Instant Apps would be a much easier user experience. Where is the problem here?

+1 on this too. Apple App Clips give a great experience for accessing NFC to read from chips on Identity Documents. It is disappointing that Android cannot provide the same capabilities given that it was a leader in introducing NFC in the first place.
