In case you anyone working on the issue is stuck at reproducing it with general Android projects, I have been suffered from this issue for a while with my project:
I'm attaching the sshot that shows what happens, as well as some information on how where to set a breakpoint (AudioPluginServiceTesting.kt). It is running tests in PluginTest.kt on the file list.

DESCRIBE THE ISSUE IN DETAIL: When debugging in Android studio when I attempt to look at the internal of a variable in the debugger console or the "Evaluate" window, the variable just says "Collecting data...".
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Android Studio Dolphin | 2021.3.1 Canary 7 Build #AI-213.6777.52.2113.8305692, built on March 15, 2022 Runtime version: 11.0.13+0-b1751.21-8125866 amd64 VM: OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM by JetBrains s.r.o. Linux 5.15.15-1rodete2-amd64 GC: G1 Young Generation, G1 Old Generation Memory: 8192M Cores: 72 Registry: external.system.auto.import.disabled=true ide.text.editor.with.preview.show.floating.toolbar=false
