I have informed our engineering team of this feature request. There is currently no ETA for its implementation.
A current workaround would be to check the returned "boundingPoly" [1] "vertices" for the returned "textAnnotations". If the calculated rectangle's heights > widths, than your image is sideways.

Description
This will create a public issue which anybody can view and comment on.

Problem you have encountered: One of the customer’s clients has noticed that when making transcriptions using latest_long for nl-nl in dual-channel some transcripts appear to be empty making them lose some sentences. They have sent us an example of the original audio, exported to an MP3 with a modified sample rate of 44100. Their original one was LINEAR16 with a sample Rate Hertz of 8000 Hz. The customer asks if we have any idea why this might be happening or how it can be solved? What you expected to happen: The transcription should be complete
