DESCRIBE THE ISSUE IN DETAIL:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

Starting from a project that builds successfully with Chipmunk Patch 2 (2021.2.1)
Android Studio -> Check for Updates and update to Android Studio Dolphin (2021.3.1)
Upgrade and Restart Android Studio

Gradle Project Import fails with

Gradle build error:

java.io.FileNotFoundException: /Users/bordersh/workspace/twitch-android/twitchapp/build/intermediates/apk_ide_redirect_file/debug/../../../outputs/apk/debug/output-metadata.json (No such file or directory)

Android Studio IDE Error:

Thank you for reporting the problem!

This code does not exist anymore in newer versions of Android Studio. However, I can see a problem in older versions which do not handle unexpected exceptions correctly.
