Thank you for the report and the supplied dump with the reproduction. I can confirm that the NPE is also present on HEAD, and I will look into it.
Quite a few of the class files in the dump has malformed inner-class attribute, where R8 reports e.g.:
Info in /tmp/tmpo67ucguh/program.jar:ofifmwrrhhmodsc/ψξψξψξξ.class:
Malformed inner-class attribute:
outerTypeInternal: ofifmwrrhhmodsc/ψξψξψξξ
innerTypeInternal: ofifmwrrhhmodsc/ψξψξψξξ$ψξξψξξξ
innerName: ψξψξψξξ$ψξξψξξξ
These are ignored, so they should not be the reason for the NPE, but something to also look into.
Description
DESCRIBE THE ISSUE IN DETAIL:
Im using a custom AsmClassVisitorFactory in order to transform local class files and dependencies. However it does not invoke a transformation on self-resolving dependencies such as JARs and AAR files that I add to the build like:
Please take a look at the attached project where I have added a JAR and an AAR file to the build. In the buildSrc you will find an ExamplePlugin that uses the Instrumentation API and just prints the name of each class that is about to be transformed.
I also print inputs and outputs of each task. You will notice that the transformation is applied to project classes, dependencies but not the included JAR and AAR file.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Also attached is the Gradle log
If that's intended behavior, we would like to understand why these artifacts are excluded.
Studio Build: 2021.3.1 Patch 1 Version of Gradle Plugin: 7.3.1 Version of Gradle: 7.4 Version of Java: 11 OS: Windows 11
