Currently this doesn't work:

public final class Foo {
  public List<String> getXList() {...}

  public static final class Builder {
    public Builder addX(String value) {...}
    public Builder addAllX(Iterable<String> values) {...}
  }
}

Metalava complains raises two problems

1. There should be a getter called getX() or getXes() i.e. doesn't recognize getXList() as a valid getter.

2. There should be a getter called getAllX() or getAllXes() i.e. doesn't recognize that addAllX() is still talking about the same property as addX().

We're working on a codegened library of POJOs and their corresponding builders and it is hard to progamatically pluralize accessors names in a reliable manner (plural(keywords) == keywordses?). It is preferable to use "List" suffixed getters instead. This is also what protobufs do.
