Hello,
Thanks for the feature request! This has been forwarded to the Engineering Team so that they may evaluate it. Note that there are no ETAs or guarantees of implementation for feature requests. All communication regarding this feature request is to be done here.
Description
What you would like to accomplish:
Water use, along with land use and carbon footprint, is one of the three Climate Impact topics that companies are reporting in their ESG reports. Today, GCP provides us with the Carbon Footprint for our cloud usage, but we would like to also report on the water use for cloud cooling.
How this might work:
Along with Carbon Footprint, the API could provide us with the monthly water use for water cooling apportioned to our usage, per datacenter/region. Water use would be expressed in Liters (International System), and a potential nice-to-have metric would be the average temperature difference of the water output vs. input.
If applicable, reasons why alternative solutions are not sufficient:
At this point, there is no alternative solution. Google committed to report water use in the 2023 Environmental Report (https://blog.google/outreach-initiatives/sustainability/our-commitment-to-climate-conscious-data-center-cooling/ ), but this does not relate to the use for GCP clients only and their specific usage.
Other information (workarounds you have tried, documentation consulted, etc):
We consulted the Keyword on Water Use in Google's datacenter, as well as discussed this topic during a Sustainability SIG.
