Based on our data we have made the following discoveries:
- Our data indicates that the change happened on, or close to, first of June (2023-06-01).
- The number of pagesWithMatchingImages has on average dropped by 50%! (This is the problem)
- The number of partialMatchingImages has dropped by 97.73% while the number of fullMatchingImages has increased by 140.88%.
- The sum of the partialMatchingImages and the fullMatchingImages have stayed the same.
We don't really care about the distribution of full matching images vs. partial matching images, what we care about is getting all the pages where an image exist and that is not the case anymore.

We can confirm that we also noticed significant drop in the quality of Vision API responses.
We've been using it for years and it was working fine! Now the response very often comes with empty partialMatchingImages and pagesWithMatchingImages. And when pasting the same image to the Google Search the results are incredible rich!
I raised similar ticket here from the private account, but it was closed...
For now we have switched to Microsoft Visual Search but it would be good to have Vision API working like during the past few years.
I'm attaching the image the responses we received for it - at the end of last year (Then.json) and today (Now.json). Hope this will be helpful. Looking forward for the quick fix 🤞🤞🤞

Seeing even more of a decrease in the number of results being returned. For example using this image https://unsplash.com/photos/a-hole-in-a-rock-formation-with-a-mountain-in-the-background-05444SuKm3M
yesterday was returning around 5 matching/partial matching results. Today it no longer returns any matches.
However if I use the same image in google images with lens it returns 4 matching results.
Would also like to emphasize the severity of this issue.
yesterday was returning around 5 matching/partial matching results. Today it no longer returns any matches.
However if I use the same image in google images with lens it returns 4 matching results.
Would also like to emphasize the severity of this issue.
Description
Normally the results we get back are identical, or at least very similar, to a manual Google image search but that is no longer the case.
An example, the image attached, only get 14 pagesWithMatchingImages back but we expect it to be similar/identical to a manual Google image search that returns around 154 image sources for the same image.
The issues is general as we see the same extreme low number of results across all the images that we have searched for since end of May.
We are using the web detection API thousand of times a day.
The issue probably started end of May. We can probably provide a more specific date if needed.
It's a very critical issue for us, so please prioritize to get this fixed, something has definitely been changed internally in your systems resulting in the extreme low number of results.
Steps to reproduce:
Call the Image Annotate API with the web detection feature (WEB_DETECTION / 10) and the max number of results (maxResults) set to a high amount e.g. 10000.
Compare that to previous results done before end of May or compare the number of pages with the number of pages returned from a manual Google Image search (Find image source).
Best regards
