I agree this needs to be fixed. Coming from a Note 10 which is like 5 years old at this point I never had the gesture hint visible the entire time. I just got my pixel 7 pro today and I can't hide this hint and it's very annoying and takes up space that is sorely missed when going horizontal. This should be easily fixed tbh.

I was HARDCORE a Pixel fan. Now I'll never buy another one. I literally had to root my phone previously JUST to remove that bar. Now that has been taking away as well. Also They removed the only NON-ROOT option to get that monstrosity off the screen. I run THE best launcher (nova beta from their site, not play store, as play store "beta" is broke) But seriously, Why are people forced to root for things that IMO should be baseline? Did Apple take over @ Google or what? Again WAS almost if not FanBoi level for my pixel but tbh I think I'll buy a flip phone. Sad....
P.S. Give us an option to turn the Gesture Bar off please. I mean Pixel Experience has a toggle.....They out-do the factory ROM...

I bought the Pixel 7 Pro a couple of months ago... and I'm looking to sell and get a different brand. Which is a shame really. It is absolutely ridiculous that this is not an option on Pixel phones, yet you can do it on pretty much every other android phone out there. Why would such a basic android feature be removed from Pixel OS?
Being able to hide the gesture bar would make the display feel clean instead of how jank and clunky it looks/feels with it there.

Agreed! Option to hide it please! Even put it in dev settings and have it on by default so people that know what thede doing can go disable it. It's an easy feature to implement.

su...@gmail.com <su...@gmail.com> #23
Google please add an option to remove the navigation bars on pixel phones. It's really annoying and takes up usable screen space. Other android phones like Samsung s23 ultra have an option to hide it permanently.

Truly one of the biggest frustrations with my Pixel 7. I've been searching for a way to get rid of the bar since I got this phone. Even my Redmi phone didn't have this issue.
mp...@gmail.com <mp...@gmail.com> #28
I agree, it's absolutely ridiculous every other Android vendor has this figured out and Google's has the "no button button", an oxymoronic bar that burns in OLED screens in an OLED phone. This was my second biggest reason to opt for an S22 Ultra instead of a Pixel Pro. It reeks of planned obsolescence or careless factory engineering, and I'm not sure which is worse.
on...@gmail.com <on...@gmail.com> #29
I just got my Pixel 8 Pro and seeing this pill on the bottom of the screen is irritating me.
Why should anyone need to replace their screen/device due to screen retention just because Google engineers were lazy enough to add the option to disable it.
Please Google, add the option on the next software update. I don't want to go back to Samsung.

If you guys really want to copy iOS, then look at them! Look at what they can do with the navigation hint!
- It's hidden on home screen because there is just no need
- It's hidden after a short while with app in immersive mode, and one swipe up will go home, not two
- ALL APPS support drawing edge-to-edge
- It adapts colours very quickly and aesthetically
- It works super well with app switching, app opening and recent view with no glitch. Android's one just appear and disappear in a jarring way
If you guys cannot be a good copycat then please don't copy at all!

Would be really nice to have the option to hide the navigation pill, especially since majority of the app developers does not optimise for it.

The navigation bar is very disturbing when in landscape mode on Pixel phones, since it uses a lot of space without giving any benefit. This makes web browsing in landscape mode in Chrome a pain for example.

It's been quite some time. I would like to know at what point the development of the fix is at. Bear in mind that not only there's no workaround anymore besides rooting but that this IS a major flaw in user interface since it takes up around 1/30 of a pixel 8 screen when minimized and in other cases such as when using the keyboard it gets to taking up to around 1/15 of the display... Understandable mistake, of course, everyone makes mistakes, but still a mistake that I'd love to know if I will ever se addressed and maybe with an ETA so I won't have to void my new pixel 8 warranty because of a simple fix. I still love the phone but google's indifference I've seen in posts all around reddit, forums and the issue tracker about this issue kinda disappointed me
my...@gmail.com <my...@gmail.com> #53
W.T.F. You serious Google? Are you really allowing Apple and sheeple to sway your decision making ability towards indifference? Cool cool cool. I'll give you until general release of Vanilla Ice Cream, and if this isn't RE IMPLEMENTED, I'll be leaving your ecosystem completely. Worse, I'll come back here and explain in detail how exactly to accomplish that to the point where if one follows, you will "forget" everything about them and never know of them again. I look forward to your full compliance.
pr...@gmail.com <pr...@gmail.com> #54
What a shame. Rooting is the only way out of this. Feels like Google really wanted screens to burn in. So much for "going green" or "long lasting device" I'd be damned if I get an OEM unlock disabled phone.

tc...@gmail.com <tc...@gmail.com> #68
While I can understand the concern that this might interfere with certain app behaviors, having experienced the feature on various Android skins for several years at this point, I have yet to encounter an app where gesture interactions conflict with the app I'm using after removing the bar.
The move to edge-to-edge enforcement in Android 15 will certainly make the bar's presence more aesthetically pleasing than the previous blacked-out region of the screen, but even so, it continues to needlessly take up space that could be filled by the app I'm using, and it continues to be a burn-in risk for the vast majority of devices.
If easy access to the new Circle to Search is a concern, might I suggest putting that feature onto the Recents screen alongside Screenshot and Select? This would require one more interaction to activate, but given that I don't feel much friction in the Screenshot interaction, I don't imagine this would keep me from using the CTS feature either.

One of the best parts of gesture navigation is that it gets rid of the three icons at the bottom of the screen. Why are they replaced with a useless white pill/bar?
Please let us have the option to remove this eyesore from our home screen. It's serving no purpose and detracts from the aesthetic of a simple interface.
I know that there are ways to remove it with root, but I'd rather just have the option to hide it instead of having to sacrifice security and features for something that should be included as an option anyway.

Description
This way we won't have to see the pill and the black/colored rectangle of it.
Both of them are useless when using gestures as it doesn't matter where you start the gesture at the bottom, and you know that the bottom is always ready to perform the gesture.
