I'm reopening this Feature Request, please note that this is not a bug or an issue report, but a request for the App Engine engineering team to clarify the differences between Hard and Soft memory limit exceeded errors.
The product team is currently investigating the differences to have a better understanding on whether exceeding the memory limit would result in either a Hard or Soft memory limit exceeded error
