Any news on this feature?

Can you elaborate on "tons of use cases and app types that need this feature"? I think I can imagine a few, but would love to know what are the examples you are thinking of.

Almost any real-time data can be displayed using gauges. Here are a few examples:
1- Body-related data such as heartbeat rate, temperature, etc.
2- Parameters related to vehicle, speed, acceleration, coolant temperature, charging percentage, etc.
3- Status of IoT devices such as charging percent, audio, duty cycle, etc.
4- Climate data such as humidity, temperature, cloud cover, wind speed, etc.
and many others that other people can probably think of.
All of these data can find their way through Android Auto, and I believe many users can benefit from them.
That is why I am suggesting that if Google engineers help developers like myself by providing the gauge template, we can take it from there and provide users with such applications, increasing the popularity and usefulness of Android Auto.

Description
I believe it is a great addition to the Car library to add a template for displaying gauges (speed gauge, fuel gauge, etc) in Android Auto apps.
First, I think there is no safetly issue regarding it (almost all cars have gauges in front of the drivers eyes). Second, there are tons of use cases and app types that need this feature,
I hope to see it soon in the library. Thanks.
