Some updates, as it seems this issue may be more widespread than I initially thought:
9to5google has written an article on this, with at least 6 different users in the article comments expressing that they too are seeing this issue on their P8Ps:https://9to5google.com/2023/10/16/pixel-8-pro-always-on-display-pink-text-issue/
Android Police has also reported on this, and they mentioned that members of their team are experiencing this problem to some extent on their P8P devices as well:https://www.androidpolice.com/pixel-8-pro-tinted-colors-always-on-screen-issue/
Finally, one person experiencing this issue on Reddit received a replacement device from Google that has the same problem but even worse:https://reddit.com/r/pixel_phones/s/Z8iAApiTKZ
Hopefully, this problem can be fixed or mitigated in software.

Thank you for reporting. My P8P is very obviously affected. As soon as it switches to 1Hz (observable by turning on refresh rate display in dev settings), the backlight brightens and half the screen turns pink. It is noticeable in a normally lit dim room, not just total darkness.
Clearly the panel can't handle the 1Hz refresh rate combined with a dim backlight. They seem to be accounting for this by brightening the backlight at 1Hz, but it clearly doesn't do the trick on so many panels. It's a shame because the only fix would be to raise either the brightness or the refresh rate, and both would negatively impact battery life. Total blunder to include 1Hz in the specs when clearly the panel isn't up to the task.

Same issue
ja...@gmail.com <ja...@gmail.com> #20
Also on mine. Only really visible in dark at low AOD brightness, but then it's very noticeable, at right and bottom especially. Considering how hard it's to notice, It's say this is much me prevalent than it would seem.

Description
U1B2.230922.006
* Is this a regression from Android 13?
The phone launched with Android 14
* What device are you using? (for example, Android Emulator, GSI, Pixel 7)
Pixel 8 Pro
* What are the steps to reproduce the problem? (Please provide the minimal reproducible test case.)
1: Enable the AOD ("Always show time and info")
2: In a completely dark room, lock the phone with the power button
3: After about 5 seconds, the AOD goes to 1Hz refresh rate mode
4: Observe noticeable and uneven color banding, which will be worse depending on the quality of panel in your particular phone.
On mine, the white text is actually an orange/pink color on the right side of the screen, getting more noticeable towards the bottom.
* Issue Category e.g. Framework (platform), NDK (platform), Hardware (CPU, GPU, Sensor, Camera), ART (platform), Runtime Permissions etc
Hardware - Display
* What was the expected result?
The color of the white text should be an even white color across the entire AOD
* Can you provide the API document where this expected behavior is explained?
n/a
* What was the actual result?
White text exhibits uneven discoloration on the AOD, in my case the white shifts to a pink/orange color on the bottom and right side of the display. Others have reported a pink color as well but in different locations. Some have reported yellowish or greenish text. Notably, this issue only occurs after the AOD has been on screen for at least a few seconds and the panel adjusts to the low 1Hz refresh rate. Also, the issue only occurs in very dark environments (lowest screen brightness conditions)
* Optional: Link to any screenshot(s) that demonstrate the issue (shared privately in Drive.)
I attached a photo of my device showing the issue. Sorry for the quality, my other phone doesn't have a great camera. Additionally, here are other P8P owners who have reported the issue and provided a photo:
1: A P8P owner provided multiple pictures on their Reddit post here:
2: A 2nd P8P owner provided this picture:
3: A 3rd P8P owner has provided this picture:
There are multiple other posts about this on Reddit (I count at least 10 unique people by now), but those were the 3 owners who included photos so far.
