Hello,
Thank you for your response.
I hope for improvements.
If actual improvements are made, could you inform me about the expected completion and when it is completed through this ticket?
In order to avoid this issue, I have made modifications to intentionally load the font files placed on Cloud Storage.
Therefore, when improvements are made, I need to consider whether to stop this workaround.

There are services running on nodejs16 or older (Ubuntu 18.04) with Puppeteer to save HTML pages as screenshot or PDF. Fonts are available in the old execution environment and documents are stored properly. Nodejs16 and older will be deprecated at 2024-01-30, thus services needs to be upgraded to use version which is not deprecated. In case on Nodejs available versions are 18 and 20. Now both of these versions uses Ubuntu 22.04 where the fonts are missing, which means that services cannot be upgraded and this is a blocker.
Following information can be used to see what execution environments are affected with this issue:
https://cloud.google.com/functions/docs/runtime-support
We can see that if recommended version of runtime is taken into use in cloud functions affected runtimes are:
- Node.js
- Python
- Go
- Ruby
- PHP
Please fix this issue before 2024-01-30 in order to use runtime versions which are not depracated for Node.js and Go.

Hi, are there any updates for this issue?
I have Node.js service which is running 16 but want to upgrade to 18 because of deprecation of 16 in GCP, and I need to use CJK fonts to generate PDFs with headless Chromium (through Puppeteer) in my services.

Your use case:
I am running a process in the Java runtime of the App Engine Standard environment that uses Apache PDFBox to load PDFs and create images. If there are Japanese fonts that are not embedded in the PDF, it worked fine with the Java 11 runtime (Ubuntu 18.04), but it did not work with the Java 17 runtime (Ubuntu 22.04). I believe this is due to many fonts being removed from the Java 17 runtime[1]. I would like you to add Japanese fonts. Also, if possible, I would like you to add the following fonts that were removed from Java 17.
