Description
Overview of Feature Request:
This issue seeks to introduce the capability of adding metadata annotations to Google Cloud Spanner's databases, tables, and views. The absence of this feature limits the effective management and discoverability of data assets, particularly when integrating with data cataloging tools like Google Cloud Dataplex. Implementing metadata annotations would significantly enhance data cataloging and searchability features within Spanner.
Problem you have encountered:
Currently, it is not possible to annotate metadata such as table-level descriptions, column-level descriptions, and labels to Spanner databases, tables, and views. This limitation hinders the ability to fully leverage these data assets in data cataloging and hampers efficient data management.
What you expected to happen:
The ability to annotate metadata to Spanner databases, tables, and views was expected. Such a feature would enable better integration with data cataloging tools, improving data management, and utilization efficiency.
