To call list on the messages ressources, user authentication is required, and it gives access to all messages of the user. It makes sense to allow the app to access the messages in a private conversation it's part of with only app authentication. The same can be achieved just by storing the interactions without any type of authentication it receives except its painful to implement. This is useful for example when the response from a chatbot depends on the history of messages.
