Recently, I’ve noticed that the Google Apps Script files linked to my Google account have disappeared without any apparent reason. These scripts were linked to a project on Google Sites and were functioning correctly until recently. However, now I get a message saying that the Apps Script URL "does not exist."

When I try to locate the scripts in Google Drive, they don’t appear in my file list or in the Trash. I’ve searched using the filter type:application/vnd.google-apps.script, but I’ve had no luck. I also tried accessing the Apps Script editor, but the projects don’t appear there either.

Additionally, I had a backup of these scripts in another Google account, but when I checked that account, I also couldn’t find the files there. This situation is concerning because the scripts seem to have disappeared from both accounts.

Steps I’ve Tried So Far:

I’ve checked the Trash in Google Drive on both accounts.
I’ve used the Google Drive search filter type:application/vnd.google-apps.script to try to find the scripts.
I’ve looked at the activity history in Drive, but there’s no recent activity related to the deletion or modification of the scripts.
The scripts were working perfectly fine up until a couple of days ago.
Additional Details:

I am using a free Google account.
I haven’t made any recent permission changes or deletions.
I haven’t received any notifications from Google about the deletion or restriction of access to my Apps Script projects.
This issue is affecting both my main account and a secondary account where I had backed up the same files.
I would appreciate any help recovering my Apps Script files or any suggestions on what might be happening.

This has happened to us Yesterday, Most of our important scripts have gone missing and we did not have this issue ever before. Script created in 2016.
These are very important scripts used by employees. Please let me know how to get them.

In my case, the projects disappeared, I see absolutely nothing in my main account and neither in two other accounts.

Same with mine. It does not show anywhere, as if those projects were never created.

Yes, same here.  Deployment stopped working in site, so I went to look at project and it is completely vanished without a trace.

However, it has kept repeating on later dates.

I have the same problem. Since yesterday some of the company's projects are missing.
I already checked the trash folder and nothing is there.
I'm not sure it has somenthing to do with this, but the missing projects  connect to spreadsheets.

Is there a way to restore the project files? Will it be saved somewhere in the workspace? A snapshot of a previous day perhaps?

Our files are very important. We are facing financial losses because of this.

I was able to restore files. Here is how I did it.

Step 1: https://support.google.com/drive/answer/1716222?sjid=14541840185849280270-NC
Step 2:  In the bottom you should see a button" Request File Recovery" leading to https://support.google.com/drive?p=file_recovery. This button is not appearing to me for a different login ID, I am not sure why.
Step 3: It will login again. You add the details.
Step 4: It will create a case and send you an email.

Within 6 minutes I got another email saying all files are restored. All my projects were back.

The trick is to get that "Request File Recovery" Button

Good tip, but this doesn't appear to work for accounts associated with a business.  It is available on my personal gmail.

I do have admin privilege and found the spot where I could request a file restore.  Now waiting and hoping for success!

The fix suggested to restore the files worked for us, THANK YOU!  For the last 24 hours we've been scrambling and trying to figure out how dozens of scripts seemingly disappeared.  Workflow was severely impacted.  Now the scripts are back, but we are baffled how it could have occurred in the first place.

The solution suggested by "cr...@gmail.com" worked for us. Google support was very good. Likewise, I do not understand how the files disappeared and the explanation provided by Support does not convince me. Thank you all!

Same exact issue. When I am trying to fill out the form to recover the file I am getting a "Refresh this page and try again. Sorry, there was a problem with the form." every single time.

En mi caso, no sucedio nada de lo anterior. Por lo tanto, la explicación de soporte no me convencio. Seguramente falto otro punto, donde ellos reconocen un error, pero eso jamás jejeje.

ad...@arnoldgroupweb.com, that was my initial experience with our company drive as well.  You'll need to have an admin log into workspace admin, navigate to directories -> users -> choose more actions and restore from there.  Good luck!

ma...@phxend.com Legend! That worked for me. So for further clarification if anyone else has the issue. Find the user and go into their profile. On the left side choose "Restore Data" and choose the time ranges. Worked within a minute. Thanks!

This issue happened to me again last night.  Restore worked again.  Maybe a bad batch process at Google running every Friday night?

Please fix this issue. Our scripts are being used by a lot of employees to fulfill customer requests. Any downtime leads to a lot of frustrated customers and financial losses.
Restoring files is not feasible.

We had a third occurrence overnight today.  How can we escalate?

Happening every night now.  The scripts that update our database overnight are not running because they get removed without our doing (how?) before they are scheduled to run.  

Restoring the files temporarily brings them back, but is not a sustainable solution since they are removed again hours later.  This "issue" is unacceptable.  Google, let us know what's going on.  

Also confirming that it happened again.

I can confirm our files are being removed multiple times per day.  Earlier today, around 8am, I checked and they were missing, so I restored them.  Later, around 10:30am a colleague reported problems, so I checked and the files were missing again, so I restored them again.  Now, around 10pm I checked again, and they are missing again, so I restored them once more.  We'll see what the state is tomorrow morning.
I will likely need to create new scripts by copying the code from the scripts that keep getting deleted.  This is a tedious task that shouldn't be required, but seems unavoidable.

I wondered about some sort of workaround, but how will you keep the new scripts from getting deleted again?  I believe the project itself is tied to the deployment?  Is there a way to write a script to recover deleted items every day?  I suppose that script would get deleted as well.  

How is this not solved on high priority? When they had already discovered the root cause of the problem in 2016.

It looks like our scripts are still in place and haven't been removed for over 24 hours. The last time I submitted the form to recover the files was yesterday morning 8:20am, Sept. 12. Is it possible this problem has been resolved?  Can others confirm what they see?

I also haven't lost a file for 24 hours, but Google provided me a partial explanation.  They said my scripts were associated with an "old style" site.  It is true I originally developed them there, but they are independently used in new sites now.  They said if I made new scripts completely independent of the old site the issue would be solved.  I asked if something can just be updated in the existing scripts.

I'm attempting to create scripts and getting into a similar issue.

I am getting an error 500 when I attempt it to go Google Sheets > Extensions > App Script.

I don't think it is a good solution, but making a copy of the disappearing script and redeploying does seem to end the issue for me.  There is a copy button within the information view of each script project.  I made a copy of the older project, deployed, and updated my Google site to reference the new script's generated URL.  Google's explanation was that my scripts were originally associated with an "old site" that is deprecated.  I wish they provided an option to disconnect as I have been using the scripts independently for years.

Same here.  Recreating and redeploying the script ends the issue.
