This functionality was released in benchmark 1.2.0-alpha06:
You'll need to use an Android 13 (API 33) emulator, and androidx.benchmark:benchmark-macro-junit4:1.2.0-alpha06, which removes the requirement for root, and thus works on Play emulator images.

Thanks for the amazing feedback! The Profiler is always looking for ways to improve the user's experience so we appreciate the request.
That said, multiple proposals on how to accomplish this have been discussed, and this will be part of our roadmap as we stabilize this feature.

But at least for the tasks that don't have configuration settings, it would be nice to be able to just double click on the task button/icon (such as "Callstack Sample") and have that also start the profiling task.
(Romain requested this and it seems like a good idea.)
