Gen 2 Cloud Functions deployment behaves differently in us-west1 compared to us-west2. In us-west2, the deployment utilizes a scratch build image (lightweight “approx 5mb”, less dependencies). Whereas in us-west1, the deployment builds from a buildpack image (large “approx more than 400mb”, includes the large dependencies).

What you would like to accomplish:

As per TSE update is being pushed through our normal rollout cycle and the same has hit a few parts for us-west2. Once the update is completely rolled out, all regions should see a scratch image upon deployment. This rollout is currently paused due to an incident and a subsequent rollout to cloud run, once the cloud run rollout completes, the automatic base image update rollout will continue.

-Cx would like to have ongoing updates on the progress so Cx can know when to retry building functions in us-west1 and see if they get the lightweight build.

How this might work:

-By completing the rollout throughout all the regions and updating to the official documentation.
