Summary: The new version androidx.navigation:navigation-compose:2.8.0-beta02 exhibits either of the following issues when swiping back quickly after navigating to a new screen.

1. Displaying a blank screen even though the swipe back action was successful.
2. Overlaying both screens, with the previous screen ghosted and overlapping the screen the user attempted to swipe back from.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Create a new Compose project with a home screen and another navigable screen.
2. Use the build.gradle.toml configuration as specified below.
3. Navigate to the second screen via a button click.
4. Immediately swipe back as the second screen appears.

Observed Behavior:

• Blank screen displayed after successful swipe back.
• Overlay of both screens with the previous screen ghosted.
• The app freezes and putting it in the background and then foregrounding does not fix the issue. The app can only be run again after it has been killed via a swipe up.

Expected Behavior:

• The app should smoothly navigate back to the home screen without any graphical glitches or overlays.

Regression:

The bug was introduced in version 2.8.0-alpha06. Below are the results of testing various versions:
