In significant cloud-based applications it is important to use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for configuration. The lack of an API for managing the relationship of Notifications to Error Reporting, makes management by IaC impossible for this very important part of observability. Good security policy dictates having a replicable process to manage production services, and restricting access to manual changes in a production environment. I am forced to find more expensive or less suitable solutions to manage error reporting because there is no published API for this feature.

Problem you have encountered:

• Association of a Notification Channel with Error Reporting is not possible via an API
• Use of log-based alerts is not a usable solution because all ERROR level log messages get grouped into a single incident
• Use of a third party tool simply to provide grouping and de-duplication of error messages is a high cost to bear

What you expected to happen:

• I expect API calls to exist to manage all features of the Google Cloud Platform, and for Web console UI to be secondary to the existence of an API route

Steps to reproduce:

• Consult the documentation for Error Reporting and observe that the only documented method for making the association of Notification Channels is through the Web console.
