I just found that not only the Gradle files but also other files do not have syntax highlighting enabled. Unfortunately, I had to downgrade to the previous stable version for now.

Thanks for the feedback. To help us troubleshoot this issue further, we will need more information. Please share detailed reproduction steps and as much as possible of the following information when it applies if you haven’t already:
Android Studio version and OS type and version(done)Screenshots or videos of the issue(done)- idea.log file (select Help > Show Log in Finder / Explorer)
Thread dumps if the issue is a freezing or non-responding UI.(n/a)

Same issue for me on Windows 10 for every Koala version:

UPDATE:
Using the method of elimination, I was able to find out that in my case the reason is - SQLDelight plugin (v 2.0.2)
When I turn it off - Studio works!

Yes, I also found that the reason is the SQLDelight plugin (v 2.0.2), and when I turned it off, the problem was fixed. I just tested it on another device (Macbook Air m2). Here's the information and the idea log.

I am encountering an issue with the new version of Android Studio (Koala) in my Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) project. The syntax highlighting in Gradle files is not working. I have attempted the following troubleshooting steps without success:
- Invalidating cache and restarting
- Cleaning and rebuilding the project
- Uninstalling and reinstalling Android Studio
