One more detail, Data Layer event calls from the watch to the phone (running Android 13) do work on if the listener is in an Activity or Fragment.

Also, I'm seeing this message in the Logcat:

Description
Android 9 devices use Mediacodec+MediaExtractor to decode and play two videos simultaneously, and the videos often experience caton.
I tried searching on a stack overflow website and found this issue:
This seems to be an issue with Android 9, and after testing, the virtual machine problem with Android 10 is no longer reproduced.
