If the return limit is 5 then adding a parameter to allow for pagination in returning reviews would be ideal.

That is a great idea, however, we have seen no movement on this ticket in eons. Google devs, an update please? Like maybe "this idea is great but we won't start on it for another few months/days/years/hours" or something?

I'm also for getting the full list of reviews.  An option/parameter to list them by Most Recent, Highest Score, and Lowest Score would be great, too.

I don't know what's taking so long for the developers to remove the limit of reviews? It's been ages now.

I think it is business strategy as @drodec has pointed out. As it can be seen in the Google Places API documentation, a "Premium Plan" is required to get ratings and a review summary.

I do want to know whether we need to pay for retrieving more than 5 reviews from Google review API?

Recent discussion with Google confirmed that the 5 reviews limitation applies to premium service as well which makes it useless for our use case.

Being able to retrieve all the reviews for a given business is only supported if you are a verified business owner and can be done via the Google My Business API: https://developers.google.com/my-business/

Regarding a use case that might apply here:

I'm working with a company who supplies beverages to the largest network of outlets in our country. What they're trying to do is say "Okay, here's the list of our outlet network - which each of whom we obviously have a relationship. We want to get the reviews for each one of them across 3 review platforms, analyse the reviews and give those outlets, as a part of their existing contract, free advice on how to improve their offering".

We're a Google Analytics and Premier partner so we'll be doing this entirely on GCP and using some ML model analysis to run some NLP across each outlet.

I'm thinking this, along with the idea of a "holding" company that owns individual companies under its umbrella offer two deviations from "My Business" that you've described above. Perhaps they're legitimate use cases for allowing them to extract more reviews?

I have a similar use case scenario as described in comment #72.  Has there been any thought put into this request? How about if we ask nicely?  Maybe a nice bottle of bourbon?   Wine?  Flowers?

I am looking for access to recent reviews.  So, in most cases, 5 reviews would be fine, if they were the 5 most recent, but I would prefer if it was the greater of 5 or however many there were in the last 48 hours.

I would like to have this feature asap with filters like ratings or reviews of last 5 days, 30 days etc.

I am developing an Google Places Reviews using Google Places API application where my target is to get user reviews about specific places using its place id and api key. But as I know google places API only returns up-to 5 reviews only but i need more than 5 reviews on my project.

To get more than 5 reviews, and also  i did apply to google my business API access request form for approval of API using my verified business account too as per their requirement as mentioned above but according to their email reply they are limiting this program to large brand companies who are already using Google My Business to manage locations with client based only.

Is their any alternative way so that we can get reviews more than 5 using Google Places API or any other way?

I would like to get the reviews about particular places, so that based on the reviews, tickets can be generated when necessary and the issues can be resolved. Only most recent 5 reviews aren't enough.

Yeah at my work we're looking into helping our client businesses grow by posting their reviews on a map. Just 5 (and not most recent/etc search filtering on it) is a big limitation. Please do this.

As someone who works with Premium Plan customers, I've seen this as a critical need for prospective customers a number of times. Even a total review count would be a huge help. Probably would be a deal maker for quite a few major customers.

I'm totally missing all reviews and the total reviews' count. It's very strange that it still hasn't been implemented. Getting only 5 reviews does not work for our use case at all.

Let me get this straight. BUSINESSES sign up to Google and USERS give them reviews, yet your hoard the data like it is gold? GIVE ME A BREAK. Those reviews belong to the business owners and those who posted them. Quit being smart-asses and let people work with the data. DO YOU THINK I AM GOING TO PAY YOU FOR 5 REVIEWS? Smarten up.

We've written a review analytics tool which additionally allows other reviews related features to our clients using the My Business API.  We've been trying to sell this product and we are receiving a lot of enthusiasm with potential clients but about 60% of said clients simply cannot use our platform with Google due to the fact that in the real world most branch/business owners don't have access to their my business account.  For the sake of example, if I let's say owned a branch of Subway, I would have to talk to my higher ups and have one of them log in on our platform with their my business account.  But in all cases we've experienced those with access have refused to sign in on our platform.  Even among smaller businesses many have had their my business account created by a third party SEO company and has struggled to get their credentials from said company.

Using the My Business API is simply not working, and since places is so limited we're faced with two options:  Degrade the quality of our service by no longer showing old reviews and try to use places API to pull the latest 5 reviews VERY frequently (so there's little change there's been 6 reviews since we last checked) which could cost as much as 20$ a month per client (which would mean we'd have to charge far too much), or resort to scraping.  Which we all know is something that should be avoided at all costs and is almost certainly a violation of googles terms of service.

It seems that it pulls 5 reviews just fine but is there a way to make sure it's the 5 most recent reviews?  So far we've noticed it seems to pull 5 recent-ish reviews.  Anyone know how to only get the 5 newest?

At least, allowing pagination or some kind of sorting would be nice. Our service will provide information about a specific organization type including the reviews, generating the highest value for our visitors. So it would be nice to get all the reviews. I don't know how probable it is, that this will be provided because this issue stays open since 2015...

While Google doesn't help us, I did handwork in Google Reviews following the steps:

1. Open the Google Reviews page and scrolled until the end (e.g., https://www.google.com/maps/place/Jardim+Pamplona+Shopping/@-23.5707194,-46.6628754,17z/data=!4m10!1m2!2m1!1sjardim+shopping+pamplona!3m6!1s0x94ce59db35e8f2cd:0xe70256ef72e2da50!8m2!3d-23.5707243!4d-46.6606867!9m1!1b1);
2. Selected all and copy;
3. Create an excel file and copy all information; All data will be allocated in the same column;
4. In another sheet, bring all information allotting in 5 columns (Look the file attached)
5. Mining the information, ordering in five columns and finding logical classifications. (e.g., in the second column always have the text "local guide" or "avaliações" - Portuguese term");
6. Then, the cells validated will be ordering: Name; Local Guide/ Photo/ information; Rating; Text Review/ Verbatim/ Like & Share bottom information;
7. You will sue the "Name" and the "Text Review/ Verbatim".

Negative issues:

1. Is an operation job, so will spend a lot of time. Could be functional in specifics cases (I spent 30 minutes to do my case with 3.416 reviews);
2a. I cannot get the rating information, because the forms don't understand the color. So, someone has a solution for it?
2b. Part of people just rated the place but doesn't write anything. I didn't use it at this moment.
3. Some reviews are a big text, and the Google summarized with "... plus". So, we lost a part of them. In my example, I signalized in red - Sheet 3, and they represent 3% of the total.

Can confirm the issue with usernames and user images. All names seem to have been changed to 'A Google user' and images have been removed. I still have to check why it happens, but I assume it has to do with compliance with the new GDPR rules.

Can confirm. All author_name fields are "A Google User" and no author_url field is available. It appears as though all users are being treated  as "anonymous". As for GPDR, the server hosting this site nor this business reside in the EU so it should have no effect on us. This appears to be a major bug.

The business' (or server's) location is irrelevant, as far as GDPR is concerned. The regulation applies to any business with EU _customers_.

What's "funny" is that, if I try to see the reviews through Google Maps, all names, photos, etc. appear. However, in the UI of Google My Business, in the reviews list, the reviewers also appear as anonymous (albeit with their photos).

One more for the “a google user” problem... completely useless.

It seems the issue is fixed now after I cleared all the cache of my site.

Is it possible to get any feedback or update on this? It has prevented us in helping 2 of our customers twice this month, making it so that we have 2 missed opportunities due to this "no more than 5 reviews" issue.

After three years, I wouldn't expect much. I went and developed a script to grab and write to a database. So, at least from this point on, I'll have them all. Well, not true, I'll have the ones marked Most Relevant. Also working on a script to just scrape them but that may be against their policy.

Saving them permanently to a storage (DB) is also against T&Cs as far as i know

Also, there needs to be a cache of some sort.
Consider this: 5 reviews on the side nav, rotating every X seconds. 32,000+ page hits/month = 32,000+ API hits/month, which means they will now start to charge you.
Absolutely no need for it. One API hit per day is that is needed. So they must be able to allow for a cache. It's just good internet practice.
 Consider WP and other sites, they cache things.
But, maybe I cannot cache more than 5 at a time.

That is the point, storing in a db (5+ reviews) is not caching.

Our company (www.trustindex.io) tries to generate fancy widgets to our users containing the reviews. These widgets can be easily inserted into websites to help sales process.
The problems is: Mostly the customers do not manage the Place object representing them on Google Maps... and they cannot get a token/access key.

And as I see ("The Premium Plan is no longer available for new customers"), we have stucked with this issue.

As far as I know this issue will not be fixed. The functionality of fetching more than 5 reviews was implemented for Google My Business service. But It is not free. Thats why I think so. So we had to pay for google my business to avoid loщsing our customers

We have been using the Reviewshake Review Scraper API which was mentioned above, it works well... For what it's worth, they are running a 20% off this month for monthly subscriptions!

It is astounding how Google leaves these types of requests to rot for years. This is obviously a hard limit and should be removed since reviews are a major part of the search experience.

What about an intermediate solution?

Places (considering them as businesses) tend to change their quality of service, owners, product portfolio, etc. This means that comments received 5 years ago are probably not as relevant as those in the latest days/weeks/months. For instance, there might be a restaurant that didn't accept credit cards some years ago, but if they do accept nowadays, those old comments should be even ignored to avoid bias in the overall rating.

My proposal is to be able to receive either comments from the past X weeks or the latest Y comments. Say... all comments from the last 3 months or the last 50 comments. I think this approach could cover our needs in most cases and probably would not affect too much in terms of performance (by limiting the amount of data through the API).
