I definitely would like to use the PlacePicker in my App, but only if I could restrict the type of places being shown. Currently it might be confusing for users to find the place they are looking for among all the other places of irrelevant type. At least it way easier to find the one you're looking for if only relevant places would be shown.
ri...@gmail.com <ri...@gmail.com> #3
It is currently kind of useless for most use cases. And really very very slow.
A filter on type would improve speed, and usability.

I think, this is one of most important feature. Almost every app that uses Place API, restrict the places to some types.
If we need a place as input, we could call the PlacePicker, but if the user can only select from establishment places? Now the PlacePicker has all the places in the earth available, and this is a bad UX. So, we will have to create our own "PlacePicker".
So only if we can filter the places, the PlacePicker may be useful at all.
There's a deadline to this feature?

Graser1305, while I understand your frustration at the lack of interaction on this comment thread, please understand we have very real limitations due to the small number of engineers compared to the size of the problems we are trying to solve as a company. We work on features and bug fixes based on the potential impact across of all of our users. We do read all comments, and take them into account when prioritizing fixes and new features. Thanks!
ak...@gmail.com <ak...@gmail.com> #33
Grazer1305 does have a point about response though. A simple acknowledgment on a regular basis would do wonders when it comes to abating some of the frustration here.

It is the number 1 and number 4 most starred item for AndroidPlaces at this time. It is the number 24 overall starred item in the project. This item has been in new state for over a year, hence some of the frustration.

en...@gmail.com <en...@gmail.com> #62
use google api for place search via the url request, check this link :
https://developers.google.com/places/web-service/search#PlaceSearchRequests
there is a type parameter which you can use to restrict the result.
get the result in josn and parse it, get the places and make marker for each place
this way you can find a specific type of places, but you have to build your own activity/dialog to show a map with places then select the place you want>
I hope this is useful

Of course we can use web service, and it is what i actually did with my applications. But if the feature can be implemented, it will be great, since we don't need to call web service manually, parse the result and pass the the parsed result to Map API.

Apologies for the delayed update.
Place Picker has been deprecated since 2019. We are now closing this issue.
Description
It would be great if the user could filter the places byPlace Type.
For example, the map and list would only show Restaurants nearby, or Bus stops or Shops.
It could be done easily by passing in a PlaceType or list of PlaceTypes as a parameter to the PlacePicker activity.
Many developers would REALLY love to see this feature.
