This would be definitely a (sort of) replacement for one of the many useful features so far offered by Panoramio.

We have been using Panoramio API in our product for several years and it has opened doors as it differentiates us. A suitable replacement would be greatly appreciated. We have images tagged to ports all over the world and has really enhanced the shopping experience for many travelers.

I used the excellent Panoramio API extensively on my site as it really enhances it to show photos from all over the country. Would be great if a similar service could be made available.

it would be great, and actualy, neccessary, to create a good alternative to the panoramio api; you owe it to the users!
Description
It has recently been announced that Panoramio is closing in November 2016 so presumably the associated photo search widget will no longer work either.
The announcement on the Panoramio site states that Panoramio's services are being transferred to Google Maps. However there is no function yet available that will let a search be made for nearby user photos which can be displayed on the map.
I would like a function similar to google.maps.places.PlacesService.nearbySearch. The function would take a search request including a latLngBounds and return a paged list of photos.
The parameters available for the Panoramio widget should be supported. An additional parameter to filter between 360 panoramic and non-panoramic images would be useful.
