It would be helpful if we were able to do SSL client authentication - there are some interesting
security related applications that could be deployed on AppEngine were this an option.

Ingo, I understand that 3719 is about App Engine acting as an HTTPS client while this is about the App Engine acting as an HTTPS server who is able to authenticate clients.

And Yes, I totally agree that 1035 and 3719 would make GAE far more interesting for certain kinds of applications.
I'm personally more interested in 1036 atm :-)
