Sounds like a duplicate of 309, but it's unusual that you were getting this issue while you still had the extension installed. What version of the extension were you using?

It was disabled.  Don't know version its uninstalled.  Why would I still
get the error if the software was uninstalled? Is it not really uninstalled?

@Patrick, unfortunately that's the problem which has been going on for over 9 months. If you don't install Google's chrome cast plugin they will flood your console with this error most notably if you have YouTube videos on the page. I wouldn't expect a fix anytime soon as by not resolving it Google gets the benefit of forcing people to install a plugin for a service they will never use but then in sales reports can say x percent of people are using Chrome Cast.

Clients ask why there web site has so many errors, and while you can explain to them it's a Google issue, they can't fathom that such a blatant issue would last for nearly a year and thus assume it's a web developers bug. That being said, it's not a simple matter of changing a line of code by Google, as Chrome is "technically" reporting an error as it should but of course Chrome shouldn't require cast sender or if it does then it should built the plugin functionality into chrome to avoid these errors. Google silenced the main thread on this so recommend people go to social media to keep the pressure on Google to resolve this.

I was just trying to figure out why a webpage was taking so long to load on my home desktop PC (NOT Chromecast device), so I opened the Developer Tools to take a look. I found that (for some unfathomable reason) the page (or Chrome?) was trying to load the file CAST_SENDER.JS from SIX! (6) different browser extensions, none of which are installed, and NONE of which I want:

same thing happens to me. No extension installed, latest Chrome version, multiple errors identical to those of the other poor fellas. Loading time is affected. Can't explain to client that this is not a developer issue but that a multi billion corporation can't or won't fix a bug.

I've got the same problem, albeit I came across mine differently.
I'm on a Mac, installed something, uninstalled it after realizing I didn't need it.
Soon after I did that, whenever I'd try to reply to a comment on YouTube by clicking "Reply", I'd get a pop-up / ad, related to the previously uninstalled program or completely unrelated.

I've been getting rather fed-up, so I tried finding out some things on my own, via "Inspect Element".
Decided to copy & paste that on Google this time, & so here I am...

I used to get the ads & pop-ups whenever I clicked random places on a page or simply click something on YouTube or other.
Now it's not happening nearly as much, but not being able to reply to comments on my videos is a nuisance.

So is this just a bug?

Problem solved: I enabled sync with my Google Account to keep all my settings and I uninstalled Chrome.
Then I deleted the registry keys in HKLM \ Software \ Google.

Everything is OK after reinstalling Chrome.

Since https://code.google.com/p/google-cast-sdk/issues/detail?id=309 is locked I write here, more than one year for that issue. What are you waiting????

I just now started getting this error. It came with the latest Chrome update. This is really a small issue, but big to my clients. They believe it's my code when it's not. Is there some JS or something we can add to our sites to suppress the error?

The original issue was reported on Jun 30, 2014 .

I understand that a "long term solution" could require some extra work, but not more than a year of extra work, right?

To prevent visitors from being bothered with this javascript error, they have to install a certain extension, or use a different browser. Chrome usually isn't the browser that we have to discourage.

I am seeing this with an iframe youtube API for the following IDs with version 49.0.2623.87 m.  Will all three of these ID's be fixed with version 50?

This just started today.  I suspect it has something to do with the message that says my version of Ubuntu is no longer supported and Chrome won't get updated anymore.  It's not a big problem since I only use Chrome with the NetBeansConnector while using NetBeans.

I was so excited to upgrade to v50 and stop seeing these effing errors all the time, but nope, they continue...

It's been over a year, probably two years, and Google refuse to fix this. This is absolutely awful.

Hi all. I work on the Chrome DevTools and care a lot about this issue. :)

First, the Chromecast team knows about this issue, but unfortunately can't fix this in the short term.

I have landed the changes to blacklist these errors, starting in December and today landed another upgrade. To be clear on what happens, the Console continues to receive these error messages, but it has a blacklist for these and discards them without showing them to the user.

I took a look at your screenshot. I'm certain that 80% of the messages were blocked on this page, but there's the 20% you're still seeing. What's up with that 20%? These particular IDs were actually from previous Chromecast chrome extensions that have been deprecated for over 6 months (and wont be used again). So it's kinda silly that some javascript is still trying to work with extensions that are long dead. But i suppose it happens.

Attached is all the IDs that our blacklisting toggles.
* If you see a message in your console and it has one of these IDs, then you just have to wait for the fix to go from Chrome Canary to Chrome Stable (takes ~10 weeks)...
* If you see a message in your console and it has an ID that ISNT in this screenshot... then comment here and I'll add it. :)

Thanks for posting. The above IDs are blacklisted in modern devtools code, so you wont see them in Chrome Canary. And probably another 6 weeks until Chrome stable also doesn't show them.

Paul, I don't think you can get away with saying 'unfortunately can't fix this in the short term', as this has now become the long term and you (Google) still haven't fixed it.

What exactly are you waiting for? Why are you refusing to handle this properly?

It's not July 2016, and nothing has changed. Can you at least give us an outline schedule of what your intentions are?

I understand you're frustrated but you're misunderstanding a bit.

The root bug here is because the cast_sender.js script, which is owned by the Google Cast team, and deployed as part of the youtube player, uses a bizarre sniffing technique to look for installed Chrome extensions. A number of alternatives have been proposed, but the team is not pursuing them at the time.

I don't work on the Cast team, but I work on the Chrome DevTools. We decided to add a blacklist to the JavaScript console. This is admittedly, a pretty hacky workaround, but we felt it was worth it, as these errors are terribly annoying.

Since the blacklist targets specific codes, we missed a few, and so current Chrome stable may be leaking a few errors. (Specifically these IDs: fmfcbgogabcbclcofgocippekhfcmgfj and enhhojjnijigcajfphajepfemndkmdlo )  If you are seeing these errors from any other IDs, then I can add those.

The fix which prevents those two IDs from spitting errors is in Chrome 52 which is scheduled to ship to stable channel around July 26th.
