ID3v2.2 uses the ULT tag, while ID3v2.3 uses the USLT ID3 tag to store lyrics embedded in an MP3.
Hopefully Android will implement a robust system can display lyrics from either ID3 version.

Has anyone successfully ported Jaudiotagger to Android? That would be one solution.
po...@gmail.com <po...@gmail.com> #10
#8 Jaudiotagger works in Android 'out of the box'.
I added lyrics support for Apollo, CyanogenMod's default audio player using that library, and works fine:http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/20056/
Anyway, it would be better and easier if Android provided access to 'lyrics' in the MediaProvider.

@rafagames92
I saw the linked page is for ICS branch. You imported Jaudiotagger without any problems? Perhaps the problems I had were related to Froyo, which doesn't have as complete of a Java system as the newer ICS?

i'm really looking forward for this feature! it's a little shame if android phones cannot display embedded lyrics, especially the high-end ones when they are compared to other brands :)

I'm really lookng ford to see this feature on android phones! Without this function android will have hard to call better than I.os media play features.

jy...@gmail.com <jy...@gmail.com> #24
I am thinking of switching from iPhone to Android phone, and I am frankly staggered to find that no Android music player supports the showing of embedded lyrics. This needs to be done NOW!
az...@cornell.edu <az...@cornell.edu> #25
#22 and #23, in the link I put in #8 there is an apk with a modified version of Apollo music player with lyric support. While they add it to the official application, you can use it with no problem.
[Deleted User] <[Deleted User]> #26
Thanks @rafagames92. I'll give that a try when I get my new phone.
hg...@gmail.com <hg...@gmail.com> #27
@rafagames92: I've downloaded Apollo from that site, installed using Astro, and yet don't see how to see lyrics on an mp3 which I know has lyrics. I didn't have a previous version of Apollo installed as this is a new phone. Any idea? Is there a setting I'm missing?
lo...@gmail.com <lo...@gmail.com> #28
Ah, I found that on the screen for the album with the album image huge, I have to tap the screen on the image and it appears. Cool!
hg...@gmail.com <hg...@gmail.com> #29
@rafagames92, I tried out your apk from post #9 and tapping on the album art for a song that has SYLT lyrics nothing happens.
Does your patched version only support USLT? Would it be possible to add support for scrolling SYLT lyrics as well?

Does ICS has support for embedded lyrics , or any other ICS app has?

I bought a Galaxy S3 which has ICS and the default music player is able to show lyrics

Ideally, I would like to see the MediaProvider Database add support for reading ID3 lyrics. Then the stock Android and 3rd party music players could easily be modified to display lyrics.
If it is not possible to change the Schema of Android MediaProvider database, then at least the stock music player should be updated to display ID3 lyrics.

My favorite artists have several releases and I have labeled them with the ID3v2.3 tag using "Album sort number" so they can be played in the original release order when I choose an artist to be played. Android will play albums in alphabetical order. It would be great if this was solved along with this lyrics issue (I believe is part of the same feature).

My two year contract on my Droid 2 is expiring soon. If Google does not add this, or fix the Out of storage error while installing apps (with plenty of room on SD and internal card), I will switch to an iPhone.
jy...@gmail.com <jy...@gmail.com> #35
iPhone has far greater issues that don't get addressed either, just to give you some thought. I am just a general user of Android, who just came from iPhone.... I would still say Android has a lot more flexibility than iPhone...

Even window media player 9 can show SYLT already.
You may try it by clicking "play" -> "Captions and Subtitles" -> "On if Available".
Please note that window media player 9 is almost 10 years old... (original release at January 27, 2003)(reference:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Media_Player ), it make me feel that android seems to be the most "stupid" OS... (When IOS can do this, windows can do this, and both of their default media player can do this).

But wait, I have android 4.1.1 on a new Note 2, and there is a Lyrics checkbox in the default player. So when I sync an iTunes playlist with songs with lyrics (automatically downloaded via SongGenie), the lyrics do appear on my Note 2.

ko...@tafs.co.jp <ko...@tafs.co.jp> #48
Well why does it matter if its part of the api or not? We just want the feature, it doesnt matter how its implemented
ko...@gmail.com <ko...@gmail.com> #49
It matters the hell because this is Android project issue tracker, no the "what do I want from applications" tracker.
As the report above says, almost no Android music player include lyrics because they are not integrated with de OS. If Google fixes that, probably every music player will include lyrics.
As I say, anyone can do it by themselves (I published a modified version of Apollo player in comment 9 made by myself that shows lyrics), but developers will do what the system offers them. That's why it matters.

yeah even i checked on that. MusicKN supports "Lyrics3v2" and "ID3" also.
ak...@gmail.com <ak...@gmail.com> #63
I have tried MusicKN, Apollo, PlayerPro and PowerAmp. For me Apollo was the only one that worked well with all my MP3s and allowed me access to the controls while viewing the lyrics. You can find it here:
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/20056/
Unfortunately, the code was abandoned and never made it into the main CyanogenMod codebase.
The point of this feature request is to have OS level support in Android. This way both the official player and 3rd party players can all have access to the lyrics.
If you are new to this thread, please just *star* it to vote for it, unless you have something important to add.

I can't believe this is even an issue. Many PC and Mac music players come with this out of the box. iPhone and Windows phone come with this out of the box.
br...@gmail.com <br...@gmail.com> #66
It is very annoying that you can't have such a simple thing on android whereas it's available everywhere else and third party apps take advantage of this by putting it on they're pro version.
ch...@exosphereapps.com <ch...@exosphereapps.com> #67
Hell, even Symbian got this feature more than 2 years ago. One of the reasons why I still use my old 5800XM for music.
[Deleted User] <[Deleted User]> #68
The AOSP music player has the option to add a lyrics file, but what is the use of it, without being able to add a lyrics file, from the phone or pc and not being able to read them even if added?

Description
Today in MailApp.sendMail function there is no way to change the 'from:' field.
If a user has multiple accounts set in his gmail he can easily change the 'from:' field when composing new mails.
This could be an argument in 'Advanced Arguments' field, which will not even break any existing code.
Notes:
If this is difficult to implement, GAS should at least use the default 'Send mail as' option configured in the users account.
