And When we make the Call to somebody the Photo is not shown unless the Caller Picks
the Phone, this is annoying too.

Yeah, bigger caller ID picture would be great, and probably more (selectable )
information, like group, company etc. (i sometimes want to know the person is in which

Who's idea was it in the almighty Google staff to limit the contact pic size to
96x96? Really? The G1, being the first Google phone, has a 3.2" screen with 320x480
rez..just doesnt make sense to me. Plz fix this issue Google. You guys strive to be

The contact pictures should stay at whatever resolution the user originally sets them with! I now try to make all
my contact pictures 480x480 to comply with the full width of my Motorola Droid. I don't want Google or my
Droid resizing these for me. Please at least make this something that is prompted if the phone is going to resize
the picture. For instance, if you supplied a 1000x1000 contact picture, Android would say "Resize contact
picture to 200x200?" with the options for "Yes", "No", "Custom Size". That would be awesome.

This is kind of a big deal! Those tiny photos are garbage up in the right hand corner
of the iphone UI.  Fullscreen photos would be great, and would also be great if when
I actually chose a fullscreen photo from within the phone UI that it wouldn't sync
back and become tiny and blurry within minutes :\ boooo

Make them big, allow us to choose big ones from within gmail too.

call is in progress, but also on the contact list itself. I have to wear reading
glasses to recognize people on my contact list.

I agree. The photo size should be larger (like the Palm Pre) and the photo

i upgraded to cyan 4.2.12 and i have 300x300 (custum thanks to xenio)(name might be
spelled wrong lol) but now all my pictures are accurate no fuzzy or nothing.. im very
pleased!

The contact pictures that google allows are WAY to small.  I have an iPhone, and use
the Facebook application to sync facebook profile pictures with the contact photos on
my device.  My phone also syncs with Google via google sync, so the large profile
pictures I get from Facebook are synced to Google.  Google resizes them to the smaller
96x96 and the new pictures are synced back to my phone; as a result, the photos appear extremely pixelated and low quality. Google, please fix this! Allow larger, fullscreen

If google won't fix their sync api to support higher res pics, android should have
the option to override inward syncing of contact pics & the ability to store custom
res contact pics on the phone or sdcard. In other words, pics are stored locally at
higher resolution; contacts, including pics, can sync upto gmail; downward syncing
of all contact fields also can be enabled, but a config option allows downward
syncing of contact pics to be suppressed if a higher res pic already exists on phone.

This seems a more practical approach than waiting for google to change their api.
Support for this improvement within HTC's own dialler too would be nice, seeing as
I'm using that ;-)

got my nexus one recently. coming from iphone, it's quite a turnoff to see such a small
thumbnail for contact. seems to bring me back to the old days of n95.

I strongly agree that full size photos is a MUST. Our phones appear to be incapable of handling large
images to non-android folks. :(

I'm no programmer, but this issue seems like an easy fix (and an important one too).
The iPhone's contact photo utilizes the entire screen. Why can't Android do it also?
The picture is so small that it's useless.

The average human will focus in on pictures before text. Since the pic is so small,
it takes longer to figure out who's calling even though the name is written right
under it.

We need larger pictures when viewing contact cards and upon receiving a call from that contact. What's the point
of having it if you can't see the picture.

Full screen photos are a must, or at least some more options (e.g. a locally stored
high-res version, and a smaller thumbnail for sync'ing back to Google Contacts).

I agree full-size caller id photo would be amazing!  if the iPhone can, this is the
one thing I've found that the Droid does NOT.  Is there someone that has created an
app for this?  Or is this something we can just make the appropriate adjustment in
preferences?

Absolutely agree. Just got a HTC Desire - really nice phone but completely
"de-cooled" by the fact that the contact photos are way way too small. Spent loads of
time creating 480 x 480 pics of people only to have them reduced and horribly
pixelated. Come on Google - its a really poor show - get it fixed ASAP. - thanks

Really agree on this, this issue should be addressed asap. Phone resolutions are
getting bigger fast and 100x100 is no longer acceptable.

Fix it Google!!!!! How long has this been going on for??????? Just got a Desire and
this is the only thing thats bad about it. When someone rings it's embarrassing seeing
this horrible low res picture scaled up and all pixeled and blurry. This is not good.
Surely someone at Google knows about it. If so why haven't you fixed it after all this
time??? This sort of thing only damages your image you know Google.  

This needs to be fixed, I also just acquired the HTC Desire and it's been bugging me to
no end. There is a temporary fix, but it involves having duplicates of all your
contacts and is a lot of unnecessary work!

This should have been fixed last year what is taking so long seriously forget a front facing camera or 4G
anything you can't even fix something as basic as making a picture bigger or at least allowing a third
party app the ability to fix it and check one more thing off that list of this you plan on getting to. And

I had emailed a letter to android-developers@googlegroups.com regarding getting the
incoming call picture to a bigger size that fills up the square at least and have
not heard anything back yet but would like to be notified by email when and if this

The default Gmail images (96x96) are getting blown up to 200x200, making them look
very blurry/low res. Please allow us to save our Gmail contact images as 200x200 or

Guys, if you do not sync with Outlook or Google, the assigned pictures looks great,
hovever, it should be bigger and synching should not change picture quality!

It should possible to add separate contact property for a hires photo whatever
resolution it have, let user decide it. Sync it without any scaling and produce 96x96

Ok this is like the 4th thread I've been on here with basically the same problem
#3870, #4147, and #5046 which they decided to close as "working as intended"
wtf!?...all I can tell everybody is..Google is either just completely ignorant and
not paying attention to everybody...or have NO idea how to fix what seems to be

I've got an htc incredible, it has the same problem. Contacts app just needs a bigger
icon instead of upscaling a tiny icon on the incoming and outgoing call screen.

Droid Eris user here and am also frustrated by the problem of caller ID pictures
looking terrible.  Using a a 2010 smart phone that has the picture quality of a
1990's digital camera...get it together Google.

I've been trying to adjust the picture size myself thinking that it was my fault.
It's sad to see people have been asking for this minor fix for months.  Please
google, fix this problem.  I'm testing my brand new HTC EVO and the picture ID sucks.

I have the HTC Touch Diamond with Windows Mobile 6.1 and the same problem. After
syncing my contacts with google via ActiveSync, the contact pictures get very
pixelate. What is so difficult for google to fix that?!?

I supose the reason for saving space, but I prefer to have less space for mails if I can put a picture in a reasonable size, or even give the chance to user to select the size (even lostting space in your mail)

I want to buy an Android phone but I equate user experience with functionality. To upgrade from a Samsung Mythic "dumbphone" to an Android phone whose caller ID is exactly the same (tiny photos on a BIG screen) is just painful, and is dissuading me from picking up a Captivate rather than iPhone 4.

I don't understand why caller ID isn't full screen, there is no reason for it not to be.  At the very least the caller ID pics should be 2-3 times bigger than they are now (closer to 3 times bigger).  The picture quality after it syncs with Google is ridiculous as well; picture quality should  be GREATLY improved.

I completly agree, the size limitation on both android and gmail is very fustrating, on my se x10 when i open the contact it is so blurry it's almost not recognizable? and the contacts on the android phone are tiny in the default view.

I, please bigger pics on incoming but also show on outgoing when you call, not just when they pick up. And really really PLEASE show the contact icon by their name in my contacts list! I hate that it is just a black and white list of names and numbers but can't see icon unless I go into individual contact. Makes it harder to find people and numbers as well as seeing who I even have icons set for or not. Doesn't seem like this should be that difficult. Thanks
