Please add these features, it would make the Android that much better!

I would also find this helpful, especially when I am not in the office.

As a long time Palm user, currently using a Palm TX, this is a make or break feature
for me. There is clearly no future in Palm and I have been anxiously awaiting
syncing with Exchange notes and tasks before buying a Droid.

Google doesn't Care.  People have been begging for this for some time.  Because
these simple features do not exist the Droid phone are really designed for play and
NOT for business

I would also find this feature very useful.  Please consider adding it.  Integrated
corporate directory lookup would be great as well, the add-on app works but it feels
like a hack.

This is the ONLY feature preventing me from switching over from my blackberry.  I love
everything else about the os- my last issue was the cdma version was not good for my
int'l travel to eurpoe but now that the SMS version is out I just need the full support
of exchange including tasks and notes.  Otherwise it is truly a single device with
corp., personal messaging, music, navigation etc

I use tasks and notes on Exchange.  My last phone was Windows Mobile 6.5. It synced
tasks and was wonderful.  Task sync is very important to me, I'd love to see it
implemented.

Please add support for tasks and notes on exchange, BlackBerries are almost dead,

Add your feedback to the page, tell MS what you think about their glaring omission of Notes Sync through Activesync with Exchange 2007.  It is supported by Exchange 2010, not 2007.

Notes are nice, but tasks are HUGE.  Notes may not be supported, but tasks are.  Let's work with what we've got and get tasks working before we get too worked up about MS leaving stuff out of Exchange.  

I used tasks on a daily basis before switching to my Droid.  And although I'd never go back, I miss my tasks DEARLY.  

Everyone to their own. In my case, Notes are huge and Tasks would be a nice-to-have. I use Notes heavily, but not tasks.

In any case, I think both are required because Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks and Notes have kind of become a standard set

If Android developers add tasks, please remember to consider CATEGORIES.

Nokia forgot about those on their sync and the amount of grief it caused for users was considerable.

Sincerely hope that Notes and Tasks become part of the Android standard feature set.

I am ONLY waiting for a resolution to this task and notes issue and I will switch to Android then. However I will not switch until then. Adding an additional app to handle this is not acceptable.

Is there any thirdparty app for managing tasks via exchange? I mean only tasks. Calendar, mail and contacts are working very well on my milestone. But I need the tasks urgently.

@20 Yes, you can use Touchdown which I do for that but no notes sync.

As for this issue I completely agree with the thread creator! Give us notes sync now Google!

We are about 2000 employees at my company and we ALL use Exchange!

Folks you have to stop complaining about Android not supporting notes, MS just NOW with Exchange 2010 has Notes as part of their Exchange Activesync protocol, it's not part of Exchange 2007 and earlier.  Even Windows Mobile phones don't support Notes (though Windows Phone 7 probably will).  Blackberry only supports notes through their own blackberry enterprise server, if you're not on that, then no notes for you...it's a dead horse for now.

Now, I will add that tasks should be added, that's been around on Exchange for ages.  I've found Touchdown a good alternative, not the best UI, but it does support categories and it gets the job done.

I agree too, I need my task from exchange for every day use. Don't say that this is not possible, when you can make sync with another exchange parts without problems... When I use my car, it have 4 wheels and not 3. Yes it is possible to drive with 3 wheels, but it is not comfortable.

In order for us to consider offering Android devices to our employees we must be able to sync the 'tasks'  !

@22: OK, I have Exchange 2010 now - am I able to complain? :) Really though, we seriously need Task and Note sync with our organization.

@26(dorpond), have you tried touchdown?  It has a full-featured task syncing and there's a beta version out there that syncs notes (though only with Exchange 2010 and editing is not supported yet)

I think it's only a matter of time before tasks and notes will be fully supported by Android, but Notes will take longer since it's only available on the just recently released Exchange 2010.

I'm not an adroid developer fan boy, and i sorely miss having over the air notes sync, however as i understand it, it (and tasks) were not implemented in activesync/exchange - even from the pocket pc days.  blackberry did a nice job implementing while running their blackberry server on the exchange box.  i believe exchange 2010 is supposed to support ota notes, so i presume that will eventually be incorporated.  i've been waiting for froyo to hit my incredible, and though i doubt it will offer any sync improvement, my fingers are crossed.
my exhange sync seems to be a HTC add-on, and if Froyo doesn't do what I want i may break down and get touchdown (i'm also lacking html emails from my exchange 2003 server)...i do believe those folks are working on an ota notes sync -- from what i've heard, it is a real bear, so while i sorely miss it, i think we need to recognize what is and is not appropriate for the android folks to do - and potentially send the bashing towards microsoft for not having it in the activesync protocols, and not blame the android developers.

Totally support Notes & Task Sync with exchange

there are apps (or at least one that I know of) on iPhone that sync's notes. There must be a way to do it on Android too. I've got co-workers who wont switch till they Android syncs notes.

Tasks and even Notes should work even with Exchange 2003. I'm running an Exchange 2003-account on my N1. In another issue I learned how to do a debug the exchange-sync-process. In the generated logfile I can see that the syncprogram sees my note- and task-folders. So it is _definetly_ possible to sync those items over EAS.

Type 10 and 17 are notes-folders and type 7 are tasks-folders.

I echo the above sentiments.  I am stuck with my BB until Android is able to sync not only my calendar and contacts from my personal PC Outlook, but notes and tasks as well. Notes are vital for my day-to-day.  Is it really that hard or are other forces at play here?

I can live without Notes (although it would be nice), but I really need native Task Syncing.  Coming from Windows Mobile 6.5.3, this is the only features I miss, but really need. Currently having to use 3rd party software, but isn't the best solution.  Please add native Task sync.

If notes were not synced by EAS, why are my notes-folders showing up in the debug-log of my N1? "Krams", "Sonstiges" and "Notizen" are my notes-folders in my exchange account. Where "Notizen" is the root-notes-folder.

@netzwerghh,  check out this wiki page, scroll down and you'll see that it's only starting just recently with Exchange Server 2010 is EAS support notes syncing.

Now, back in the Pocket PC days, you could sync notes, but that's only when you synced with a USB cable to the PC via Activesync.

Not sure where u are getting your info but I have synced task and notes with windows mobile for years on exchange 2007 and 2003 using activesync.

I respectully suggest we use this thread as a sort of petition to ask google to provide over the air sync for  android/exchange to include  tasks and notes. I think everyone knows it can be done, and I think everyone knows google has the resources to get it done, one way or another. I also suspect millions of users would love to jump to android, but for this gap in exchange sync-ing. So, let's get people to chime in until it's announced by google:

Notes are not important to me, but I REALLY would like to have my Tasks. I'll check out touchdown and see if i can use it just for Tasks while using native apps for everything else. HTC Incredible with Froyo.

Actually, the HTC Incredible doesn't use the stock Android Exchange functionality, so you'd have to ask them about it; there's nothing we can do.

Just started using Touchdown - task sync seems to be okay so far.  Nevertheless: not sure that I'm going to shell out $20 when the trial period is over :-(

As with other requests, this one is well known and we'll do what we can.

Please Google, get with it. Don't you want to be able to crush IOS4?? Well you cant with Android 2.2. The lack of full support for Exchange is a major issue. Apple has it. Plus Apple is a more secure connection. Now I really dislike Apple so I hate giving them props. This lack of FULL exchange support will prevent business users from switching to Android phones. Microsoft is about to releas WP7 and it will have all the support for Exchange plus a revamped and very user friendly UI. Again, what is the hold up Google?? Get some developers on this issue.

It's also not just about tasks and notes. The actual e-mail application is quite terrible. It works - just, but that's about it. It crashes, can be terribly slow, doesn't allow proper (full detail) querying of the GAL, can't "select all" in the folders (so can't delete the items in the deleted items folder), takes FOREVER to sync. a folder that isn't the inbox, doesn't support App2SD, etc., etc. It's obvious to anyone using the e-mail app. that it's a very basic utility. It also hogs HUGE amounts of memory (somehow - what IS it doing??). Let's get it to use the SD card as storage and put itself on the SD card. The Blackberry may be a basic and relatively inflexible device, but it does get one thing right! Exchange. Replicate the fundamentals for the Android platform and it's a winner.

I would like Task and Notes sync via ActiveSync. Preferably allowing for non-Exchange based servers that use ActiveSync to also perform synchronization. (Specifically from the CommuniGate Pro mail server).

I too would like both Exchange Tasks and Notes implemented via Activesync.  Its very frustrating to have to pay for a 3rd party application to do what almost all other platforms do natively.

It is essential for Exchange Notes and Task be available on the Android platform for it to be accepted in a business enviroment.  We have just ordered 18 BB Bolds rather than HTC Desires because of this omission.

Notes are not synced in the EAS protocol, so this is an unlikely addition for the forseeable future.

What about making some kind of web service exchange tie in? If blackberry can do that, why couldn't google? It may not be prefect but we would accept installing additional software with exchange to get notes sync.

There is actually a feature of ActiveSync that supports this:

"Service provider support for other types of data is written by OEM or third-party developers. Although this requires some programming effort, it also assures that any application or data type can be supported. This and the following sections explain the steps required to create custom service providers."

You can create an ActiveSync service provider COMponent to support other data types for syncing.

Exchange 2010 finally supports notes, just have to wait for your company to install it.

BTW, not even Windows Mobile phones support notes on non-Exchange 2010 servers.

I went from a Blackberry which I liked well enough, to an iPhone that i LOVED but ATT was HORRIBLE, then back to a Blackberry (Storm) which was way worse than horrible and now to my HTC Incredible.  I like my Andriod almost as much as my iPhone, but I really miss my Tasks and Notes.  Its the only reason I'm considering giving ATT another chance (they have put up more towers in my area).  I use my phone for everything, and this is something that is killing my productivity.

Another vote for Tasks on Android...it's the number one feature I'm missing.

I bought Touchdown, it is doing it's job nicely, however, this should really be a system job. Most of the other platforms offer it out of the box. It is one of the biggest problems for using the phone in business environment.

Wow, I was about to purchase my first Android device (Tmo G2) next week until I saw this thread when researching how Exchange works on android. This is a huge deal breaker for me. I use Outlook tasks & notes everyday to keep my business & personal life organized. With no ability to sync these important items I'd be SOL. Guess I'll upgrade to newer Blackberry. Sigh.

While I continue to hope this functionality will eventually part of Google's native Activesync implementation on Android:  I'm happy to report that I have been able to sync my Exchange account Notes and Tasks over Wifi using this $4 app:

I'm absolutely stunned that tasks are not available on my brand new desire hd. I've been using blackberries with exchange for years and I thought that tasks are so fundamentally important that I never checked if Android supported them.  I would never have bought an Android device if I had known this.  Everything I need to do is an Outlook task.

Unreal, no task synch?  I just switched to the HTC Aria from the Samsung BlackJack series of phones because I'm LOVING Android.  Now I find out that Task synch isn't supported.  I can't believe it's a technology blocker, ActiveSync does it by default.  I have to wonder if this isn't a move by Google to block MS technologies until they can get their own task tracking software working well enough to compete?  That's the only logical conclusion I can find...  Come on guys, Android will win the mobile phone OS competition hands down, but not if you don't support the industry standard enterprise mail/task/calendaring system.

This issue is OVER a YEAR OLD, and it is still "unassigned"?  As a network administrator I know that Exchange Activesync allows for tasks to sync, so why can't my DroidX get them?  I really don't want to have to go back to Blackberry but my work day can be extremely task driven; I'm sure I am not alone on this.

android not supporting tasks is not good. Does the iPhone do tasks? if so (need to research) that is my next upgrade. have had a htc incredible and done without, but now that verizon has the iPhone, i'll check the task support on that before i buy another droid. contract done in Feb for one of my phones.

I just went to an exchange service and was really surprised to see tasks would not sync.  All of this time I thought I was doing something wrong until I read this thread.  Android is such a great platform and syncing tasks is such a basic function.  There must be something more to the story.

Syncing tasks is a must for any business user.
It looks that Google is following the Apple way, omitting Task & Notes sync to create a market around this issue. I will not agree to install 3rd party applications, most of my work is in forint of my desktop and this should (and can) be built in.

I don't mind if the price of the phone will "soar" in 20$  as long as I don't need to install more and more "helpers" on my PC and mobile.
 
Notes is not supported in EAS, However sync against Outlook or iMail should do the job.

My next phone is going to be Nokia only because of this issue.

With broader corporate use of Android 2.2/2.3, it's surprising that there is no native support for Exchange Notes and Tasks. Come on, Google, get on this!

It would be nice to have the ability to sync the tasks with exchange server 2003.
The notes are less important for me but the tasks are essentials.

One more person for the request of adding tasks!  I use the GTD or "Getting things done" organizational method, and tasks are central to that.

Totally agree with all and want to emphasize tasks AND notes native sync!  This is the reason I haven't switched from my Blackberry.  Absolutely ESSENTIAL applications for business and personal productivity.  Like jko said above, "notes run my brain"!  What's it gonna take to make this happen?!

Company of 25 moving to exchange server and currently have blackberry.  looking to buy a lot of android phones to access our exchange server. worried that no task support could push us away from google. not sure if i can rely on touchdown to make this happen...also an added cost which is a negative.  common google get it done...simple...add tasks to next update...everyone needs a tasks list anyways

If you want to penetrate the enterprise, Exchange synchronised tasks are a must.

Just got an Android phone. Love it, but I use tasks and notes daily. This really needs to be included.

Notes & Task synchronization is a big deal.  Between this issue, contact linking, copy and paste and bluetooth bugs that auto call the last number when it initiates - this phone OS is too immature. I have had it for 3 weeks and consider it a huge waste of time trying to figure out how to make it work.  After reading all the "bug complaints" with no response from Google, I am returning the phone and going back to my blackberry.  

Starred.  My company has implemented an Exchange server.  Most employees have smart phones. Company bought phones are Blackberries. I don't see us offering Androids until Exchange sync is fully featured. Definitely lost business here.

tasks are an absolute basic feature even the earliest pdas had this and android should fully support it with and without exchange. there should be full outlook compatibility (including notes, tasks, mails, contacts, calendar)

This is an absolute must-have feature, not just for enterprise customers (which I realize aren't really the target of Android at the moment). Come on!

Tasks and Notes are essential to me, it's really a shame that those are not natively supported by Android after all this time. I checked the alternative software solutions but those don't have the potential of a native Activesync support.

Two years and nothing. The new WP7.5 (Mango) is already supporting tasks sync from exchange. Common Google you can do this.

even hotmail ActiveSync provides alerts on android

grab the email app from CyanogenMod and add hotmail manually as exchange

Can someone recommend any app the can make an ActiveSync and nothing else on task, have to install 3. part software until Google make this change.

Not supported natively in ics.

Google wants everyone on GMAIL, so there is no priority for them on this.  Doubt it will happen natively.  Decisions like this are the reason that even though I am a huge android fan (with a GSII and a Transformer Prime), I will probably end up going back to Windows Phone once they have a few versions under their belt.,With a Windows 8 Tablet to boot.  Google just doesn't seem interested in supporting Exchange or any other enterprise features for that matter.

As much as I'd like to use Google Apps, many companies are stuck with Exchange for many reasons.  The simple fact that Android/Google Apps doesn't do tasks either makes this a double-whammy.  

This is disappointing. 3+ years of comments from users and still nothing from google? I'm new to Android (Samsung Galaxy Note) and other than the lack of support for Exchange Task Sync I love it.

I am the first user out of 200+ employees that currently uses the Note, the rest are using Blackberries on a cororate BES. Our IT department asked me to do a one off trial and give my feedback as to the viability of switching everyone to Android. If I were to recommend it only to have no exchange task sync my Co-workers would lynch me.

I absolutely love the Note and it's "business-centric" ability and appeal but with this option we will remain on blackberries.

I'm hoping that the pending ICS update for the Note addresses this glaring hole that as far as I can tell is it's only weakness.

please add this feature

Android is now the only major mobile platform that does *not* offer a native task app with Exchange sync.  Please modernize.  To be honest, I'm considering a platform migration because of this feature gap.

Outraged, by the lack of progress on this very important issue. I'm recommending WP 7.5 at our company from now on.

How can you offer something that does not sync tasks!!!

I am using S Planner on brand new Galaxy S3 which support tasks, I also checked to sync them but they do not sync with my exchange. Other items sync correctly.
How come?

Yesterday, I upgraded my HTC Desire S phone to Android 4.0.4 (Official Htc update) and I now have Ex change Tasks sync feature.

Unfortunately, on my Acer Iconia Tab A501 (Android 4.0.3), I dont have this feature. I can still sync Mails, Calendar and contacts but not the Tasks.

I dont know if this new feature is related to Android version or toi HTC...

i think this is a special version from Htc....

I was used to the smooth task sync function on WP7.5 (of course...). I am missing my tasks sooooo much. So pls pls work on this function asap!

google, perhaps there is a challenge we don't see...at least a response about why we dont have it would go a long way here

Just bought Nexus 4 and I am really disappointed that Tasks are not synchronized.
Sense 4.x already has it!

I have to Switch to WP8, if you don't implement this function. Tasks are really important my work and Organisation.

This is a major issue for me as well. I use extensively Tasks and Notes inside the corporate Exchange server, not being able to sync them on my Nexus will make me switch from my Nexus 7 to the iPad, sooner or later :(
