I've went into setting of the GMail app and added my HTML for my signature but when I send the mail all it puts in the signature is the Actual HTML code and not the links and images.

Please Fix by enabling HTML in the Gmail APP just as you do in the GMAIL Desktop version.

Device: Google Nexus S (Tmobile Version Unlocked)
OS Android Version 2.3.4 Gingerbread

I have found a way of overcoming this. You can copy the source HTML and paste it into the 'signature' setting of Enhanced Email

I hope they fix this issue. As a workaround for now I create a bunch of drafts from my pc. When I go into the drafts folder with my tablet or phone the signature stays there because it was created with the desktop.

To utilize html signatures including images from my desktop, I have gone the path of using the canned response feature from the Labs. This is perfect for me as I use the same email for personal and business (real estate) purposes. I can insert the signature when needed.

The Android app doesn't allow this, nor can I get this feature when using the desktop version off the web interface from my Android device (HTC Thunderbolt).

I would love to see a solution for this issue!

Just enable to formatting text using small text size... sometimes is not necessary to write an html statement but use two different sizes.
other tip...why don't enable only a "remarks" to the web gmail interface instead enable a personalization into the app? using only a checkbox to enable the code inserted in the other interface it will be more easier to manage....

I love Android & sell a lot of Tablets to directors of corporate companies. I convinced them all Android is better than Mac. Wow, it's nearing about a year since I started this damn bug complaint and nothing as of yet. I appreciate all the other comments, only we've had two major android updates and countless minor updates for them to fix this and they havennt.. What do I need to do to be able to have HTML signature access with my mobile device. I mean, it's already syncing with the google server why not pick up the HTML signature I have on the server as the mail is being sent out? I just don't understand what makes this so hard to do. I mean, even "Windows" OS offers this back before smartphone were actually the "In" thing to have.

The gmail signature should suffer some improvements. For example in the
conversation when you reply 5 6 times, your signature repeats over and over

I'm sorry to say, that not even iPad supports email signature in HTML, and only now it supports multiple signatures per account. But yes, I find this missing feature very annoying, since I use corporate account on my Android, and I can't send emails from my phone, because rules say I must have the "official" html signature. It's simple as adding an option to use desktop (read: GMail web) signature, or local text one, that's it! Please Google, implement this!!

I'm confused. This used to work for me on the iPhone Google app when I selected Gmail, and I swear that it worked at first on my 'upgraded' Motorola Razr M up until a couple weeks ago. As the director of a software engineering department and user of email and email signatures for over 15 years, it seems to me that an HTML signature in Gmail's Android app would be a useful addition for general users.

For business users, like those at Moontoast.com, it is plainly egregious, outstandingly shocking that the application will not allow an HTML signature line.

Please count our business account, and all its users into the virtual petition to have this quite simple feature added as soon as possible.

Yes, this feature is very desirable for many people, including me.

It would be very helpful for it to have the option to use the signature already established in the user's Gmail account, with the option to add things to it (e.g. "Sent from my Android") in case the user wants to distinguish which device they sent a specific email from.

Yeah and unfortunately nothing will change - this website has *no* control over any Google apps such as Gmail.

Asking for features in Gmail here is a waste of time, which explains why there has never been an official answer other than "this is the wrong website for you". This issue tracker is for AOSP Android and AOSP Android does *not* contain Gmail.

I appreciate the frustration - I would like an html signature as well - however this is simply the wrong place to ask.

Why is this still not implemented on Android, yet iOS has had the ability to use the desktop Gmail signature for nearly 2 years now? Just ask the iOS team how they implemented it into the iOS Gmail app and do the same thing with the Android app. The mobile dev teams at Google really need to work together more.

This should be such a basic feature. We should not have to ask for it!

And now, with the latest version we can easily add other accounts. Now a lot of people (like me), will want to stick to gmail for all their emails and ditch K9 or whatever they were using. But we can't because html signatures have become such a widespread standard.

I have just discovered this also and am Gutted as have come from IOS and am a google apps for business user!!! i have not noticed as i never viewed my sent emails from my note edge, and took it for granted that the signature was there as in ios. I have tried a myriad of email apps and none support HTML!!!
IOS mail even supports it as you can copy your signature with hyperlinked images and plonk it straight into the signature section of the native ios mail app.
I then went back and opened up the ipad and iphone GMAIL APP and it has a feature as does the mobile web version of Gmail to use the desktop version signature. WHAT'S DOING!!!!

I cannot believe that this is not fixed Is anyone home????

Here in Germany when working for a company the signature has very exact requirements which should always list CEO, and a host of company registration numbers. Using the Gmail signature in the Android app would be the way forward.

We use a specific email signature (HTML) through the company to push our graphical profile, and we use both desktop Gmail and Android/iOS app to send and receive emails. It would be great to have the same signature (HTML) regardless which device we use to send emails.

Come on google this was opened in 2011 5 years have gone. Html signatures have been around long before the Gmail app. It's most annoying that you don't get with the times and allow this feature that so many people would love to have.

No, it isn't. Inbox isn't really enterprise-ready, or fully compatible
with GSuite.

This is a case of Google providing functionality to Apple users that they
don't bother to give their own Android customers. That is something they
are entitled to do. If you don't like it, you need to vote with your

What's REALLY stupid here is...

... google already supports HTML in the android app. I can create a draft with HTML in it, save it, then open it in my android device, and it shows up precisely how it should.

On occasion, when I've felt the need, I've actually copied the HTML signature from a prior email and pasted it into a new email - all on my android device - and it works, no problem.

For whatever reason, Google just isn't supporting all of the key functions in the Android app, that they do in the web interface.

This doesn't really make sense to me since the market is moving to more of a mobile market. More and more people are working from their phones and tablets as opposed to sitting at a desk. Google should be ahead of the curve on this rather than trying to catch-up to the rest of the pack.

The guy saying buy an iPhone: Google literally invented Android but can't
get the Android version of their app to have an HTML signature, even though
the app obviously supports HTML email? That doesn't make sense.

I'm a web/app developer I can say with upmost certainty, that this isn't
"infeasible" (Does another app do it? If yes, then it's not infeasible. End
of story). To collect/parse HTML in a text field is a fairly trivial thing
that's been done literally millions of times on millions of websites and
apps. It's not reinventing the wheel.

We're talking about Google here. They built all the software the phone runs
on, in addition to the app. They have thousands of developers across the
country (many of whom are moving in, driving up the rent, and pricing
people out of their neighborhoods, including mine). They can do it. Why
they refuse to do so is the mind-boggling question.

I would like to see this feature implemented, and we even built a product to help get around these kinds of issues. We have customers that would love to be able to see & manage a client-side signature on their Android Gmail apps, but can't simply because of the level of support. Heck, iPhones can even sync the signature from the Gmail web client. Can at least that even be replicated on Android?

I am adding myself to this issue - This is so not working for me anymore... Anyway for the community:
my work-arounds I am using to avoid this issue are this two (I am not happy with any of it - but it does the job some how, if you have the tome and data):

Way 1) have a draft that you created on your computer and use it later on your phone. It should keep the html signature. (not always an option... what if I don't have one....)

Way 2) - And you will hate this one as well as I do, because it will drain your mobile data plan:
2.1) Use the web browser on the mobile (no the gmail app),
2.2) login to

gmail.com,
2.3) request Desktop Version (upper right menu of your browser window if you use chrome mobile),
2.4) click compose email,
2.5) scroll down to details and change to standard instead of html (only works if desktop is forced as described in step 2.3 - or you get back to mobile mood which will not work)
2.6) send mail.

2.7) NOTE: thinking about the data if you are on a WIFI this is ok, still you need to do this 6 steps each time you open a new browser window and this is very time consuming.

@GoogleSupport: All you need to do is allow html picture code in the Signature section. have a look at

jsfiddle.net to get a better idea what we want to insert. This is a issue over all for gmail Business clients as you do not look very professional sending emails with HTML text footer. If only you'd support html code in the signature text in the App we all would be very happy. t.x.

Migrating an ~800 person company to gsuite - most users have iphones and have no problems, but we need certain things for compliance that are only really feasible with HTML / using the desktop signature and android users are losing it.

Fix the issue or lose sales to iphone - I had a couple users with pixels and full google evangelical mode get deflated and start grumbling about switching to apple.

I have a professionally made every-day HTML signature, with my photo, name, profession, address linked to google maps, a link to call my telephone and links to linkedin, facebook, twitter etc, with logo images. But the answer to your question is the IOS App is just a skin for the web version so the signature is applied. Android it is a native app and needs development. The reason for the lack of development is baffling some say its to do with security. Meantime my Chairman complains monthly to me.

I am having to open gmail on my phone browser and send an email which makes me wonder why I am using the Gmail app at all !!
Another work around is to save a draft email with your signature and use this each time you want to send an email but this is very inconvenient when you want to reply to emails from customers and suppliers.

That said, this - among other things - has cost Google a customer, as I'm now moving a client out of Google Workspace, to MS365 - since Outlook *DOES* accommodate HTML signatures. It may work for GMail, but why should I have to use a competitor's application?

I've been campaigning for years on this feature. My CEO has been frustrated
since 2015.

Been in front of the andriod developers (UK based) and with other UK google
guys. They took me shooting to try to win more business in 2018. Fancy
London parties a few times since.

Been to their UK HQs (new kings cross and Bishopsgate). Been on their
Google earth virtual reality simulator. Which was cool. Started from space
and flew under a bridge in Rome.

At events ive for the same thing ... this feature.

Outlook now has this feature and Google licencing catches up my bosses are
saying move on.

Sadly we plan to move to Microsoft in 2023 when the bespoke contract runs
out.

And I avoid dealing with MS on any level. And I personally hate outlook.

Gmail and moved them to Outlook
