LTR is a feature of H.264 encoding that allows the encoder to mark some frames as long-term reference frames, which can be used to recover from packet loss in video conferencing scenarios, reducing the need to request IDR frames. LTR can improve the video quality and bandwidth efficiency of video conferencing applications. However, the mediaCodec framework lacks LTR support.
By the way, iOS video toolbox exposes the LTR API. Actually, Rockchip, MTK and Qualcomm have supported LTR by hw codec, hope Android could support LTR officially.
