The word 'recursive' appears to be gone from the docs.
However, some may still be confused by the (accurate) mention of subdirectories. The Linux man page for inotify(7) has an explicit note warning that the mechanism is not recursive.

According to documentation of FileObserver, It uses inotify of linux kernel subsystem.
Inotify does not support recursively watching directories.
