In Android 6.0 the default speech recognition service can be set via the "Voice input" setting in the "Assist & voice input" menu ("android.settings.VOICE_INPUT_SETTINGS"). However, this setting is not preserved: whenever one enters the "Assist & voice input" menu, the setting is automatically reset to some value (in my case "Basic Google recognition").

How to test:

1. Make sure you have several speech recognition services installed, I've used the "Google App" and Kõnele (

2. Go to the setting "Assist & voice input"

3. Set the "Assist app" to None to make sure the "Voice input" setting is available

4. Set "Voice input" to "Kõnele (fast recognition)"

5. Press BACK

6. Go again to the setting "Assist & voice input". The "Voice input" setting has been automatically reset to "Basic Google recognition".

Tested on: build MMB29S / Android 6.0.1 / Nexus 5

This issue is NOT a duplicate of 200496:

- this issue: the "Voice input" setting is reset when entering the "Assist & voice input" menu
- 200496: the "Voice input" setting disappears when a specific app is chosen as the "Assist app"

The issues are related (because they are both related to the "Voice input" setting), but they are definitely not duplicates of each other.
